April 4, 2022 Observer Newsletter: Triple H announces in-ring retirement, WrestleMania weekend

While most of the headlines this past week after Paul Levesque’s interview with Stephen A. Smith on ESPN+ centered around him announcing his retirement, that was really a minor part of the story.
A far bigger story is his heart condition, greatly downplayed in September when WWE released information on it, was nearly fatal. The person who had been groomed for probably the last 15 to 20 years to be the guy who would eventually replace his father-in-law, Vince McMahon, in charge of the wrestling side of WWE, is now in a position where it is unlikely, and certainly not the best idea, for him to ever get into that position. The most important thing is he needs to take care of his health first and foremost. A job that is often more than an 18-plus hour a day job with constant stress and non-stop decisions of running the wrestling side of the business doesn’t mix well with that.
