Figure Four Weekly: Can a reboot salvage 205 Live?, pt. 2

It may take a while before we know whether the ongoing 205 Live reboot will be able to salvage the show, but there were positive developments both on television and behind the scenes last week.

The most encouraging sign from last Tuesday’s show was Roderick Strong advancing to the second round of the Cruiserweight Championship tournament. The episode was good from beginning to end, with two tournament matches that highlighted the potential of what the cruiserweight division could be. Kalisto defeated Lince Dorado in a solid lucha-style showcase, then Strong beat Hideo Itami in a hard-hitting and technical match.

If wrestlers from outside of the regular 205 Live roster are going to be part of the tournament, it’s important that the crowd believes they have an actual chance to win. Strong advancing puts a great worker in the second round and will make it more interesting when other surprise participants (like Mark Andrews this week) have their matches.
