Figure Four Weekly 2/27/2017: Looking ahead to WWE Fastlane

With WWE’s final pay-per-view before WrestleMania under a week away, the build to Fastlane has been aided by a few of the company’s best television segments of at least the past several months.

The Festival of Friendship was perfect. From the timing of it coming before the audience knew for sure that the full turn was happening, the performances of Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho, and even the parts played by the bit characters, everything delivered.

And it needed to deliver as much as it did. While Owens and Jericho’s friendship was one of the better parts of a lackluster period last fall, it often felt like it wasn’t fit for the main event slot.

Owens’ Universal Championship reign as a whole has been a disappointment and has often felt aimless. That’s probably due to it beginning without concrete plans set for the title following Finn Balor’s injury, but the second half of 2016 was an often-excruciating time as the same wrestlers were featured in seemingly the same segments on Raw every week.
