WWE’s Shane McMahon hospitalized with diverticulitis

Roughly two weeks before he was expected to be in a feature match at this year’s WrestleMania, Shane McMahon finds his immediate wrestling future in doubt as he is recovering from both acute diverticulitis and an umbilical hernia in a New York-area medical facility.

This is legitimate and not part of the storyline currently going that saw Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn “fired” for their attack on him after he stepped down as commissioner a couple of weeks ago.

According to a story on WWE.com, McMahon developed “a massive infection” and umbilicial hernia due to acute diverticulitis while vacationing with his family in the Carribean and was hospitalized in Antigua for several days. They said he is currently being treated with “heavy doses” of antibiotics and that the hernia will require surgery once the infection is cleared.

This obviously puts the expected McMahon-Daniel Bryan vs. Owens-Zayn WrestleMania match in limbo, but the organization will likely have to put Plan B in motion starting Tuesday with less than two weeks to go before the show.

WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar famously dealt with diverticulitus during his UFC run, causing him to retire. He had part of his colon removed and changed his diet, eventually returning to both WWE and the UFC.
