WWE’s Sasha Banks to star in college football national championship opening video

One of the top wrestlers in WWE will star in ESPN’s opening video for tonight’s college football national championship game.

Variety revealed today that the opening segment for the game features Banks “as a futuristic superhero who sparks the start of the college football national championship using the final piece of confetti from last year’s game in Miami to the teams running out on the field this year in Indianapolis.”

“It’s been such an honor, I feel like everybody who has been working on the set, and the whole team have been so incredible… to walk in and to just feel so welcome, and just to see everything, and I was just like, it was amazing,” Banks said. “I love the outfit, I love the concept, and it just fit me so well.”

WWE announced over the weekend that Banks is expected to be out of action for 6-8 weeks due to a bruised calcaneus bone. The injury happened when Banks was facing Charlotte Flair at a house show in Fayetteville, North Carolina on January 2.

If the timetable for Banks’ injury proves to be accurate, it means that she would miss the Royal Rumble.

Tonight’s college football national championship game between Alabama and Georgia airs on ESPN at 8 p.m. Eastern time and will go head-to-head with WWE Raw.
