WWE’s Ronda Rousey confirms fractured arm

Ronda Rousey has confirmed reports that she has a broken arm.

Rousey says she fractured her radius (one of two bones in the forearm) at WWE’s house show in Rockford, Illinois on February 26, 2023. She also commented on having no ACL or cartilage in her right knee due to injuries first suffered as a teenager.

Rousey wrote on Instagram:

How do you train with no ACL or cartilage in your right knee as well as a fractured radius?

Focus on what you CAN do – I have some of the most versatile training routines on earth, I need to do PT, build strength, retain flexibility, and train technique across multiple disciplines – sometimes all in a single session.

After over two and a half decades of combat sports training – the smallest misstep could result in surgery.Thankfully @mizunousa just sent me their new TS-01 trainers specifically designed for stability (while still ultra light so not to aggravate what remains of my knees woohoo!) check link in bio to get yours

Story time!2 weeks after my ACL reconstruction (at 16 years old) My mom had me on the floor doing pushups to teach me a lesson: you can sit around and feel sorry for yourself, or get off your mopey ass and train with a vengeance.

It’s thanks to that ACL injury I spent an entire year focusing solely on newaza (ground techniques in judo) and became the best in the world in armbars and transitions (anyone who doubts me is welcome to try me )

***Well, after thousands of dislocations (I thought not tapping out to armbars and tearing ligaments was cool in my teens) my elbow finally fractured simply by slapping the mat in Rockford, Illinois- right before Wrestlemania.

The only thing saving these chicks now are the doctors not letting me compete. Well ladies, they can’t keep me away forever, I’m not moping, vengeance is coming.

Rousey had originally been planned to team with Shayna Baszler and challenge for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania. However, plans changed due to Rousey’s injury.

Our own Dave Meltzer addressed Rousey’s situation in today’s edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Meltzer wrote:

The decision was made to nix the planned storyline that was leading to Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler getting a shot (and presumably winning) the women’s tag titles. No direct reason was given, although the idea that Rousey has a fractured arm and thus wasn’t going to be around for a television build for a title match at Mania probably factored into it. The feeling is why throw on a WrestleMania title match when you can’t really build it effectively right now.

As recently as this week, Rousey and Baszler were still confirmed for the Women’s Showcase Fatal Four Way Tag Team match at WrestleMania. So far, only Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, who won a qualifying match on SmackDown, have been confirmed for the four-way. Other teams talked about as possibly being entered into the match include Shotzi & Natalya, and Carmella & Chelsea Green.

Meltzer continued:

We could not confirm the other names but names bandied about by others have been Natalya & Shotzi and Carmella & Chelsea Green. However Carmella was billed for the 3/20 Raw show and wasn’t there and no reason was given publicly or privately, and Green teamed with Piper Niven instead.
