WWE’s Gable Steveson returning to amateur wrestling for US Open tournament

WWE star Gable Steveson is set to compete in the US Open wrestling tournament later this month.
Team USA Wrestling announced in a press release on Tuesday that Steveson has registered for the US Open, which takes place in Las Vegas on April 26-30. In the press release, USA Wrestling said that the US Open tournament “acts as the first step in qualifying for the US Olympic Trials next summer.”
Steveson signed with the WWE in September of 2021 after winning the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo that summer. Later that fall, he was drafted to Raw as part of the 2021 WWE Draft. However, he has yet to have an in-ring match. In October of last year, it was reported that Steveson was training with WWE full-time following a heart procedure.
Steveson has made a few non-wrestling appearances in WWE, most recently back in December, appearing with Kurt Angle as part of an Angle birthday celebration.
