WWE star Drew McIntyre inducted into Scottish Wrestling Hall of Fame

While home for Clash at the Castle, WWE star Drew McIntyre received a big honor.

McIntyre was inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame for Scotland on Thursday, becoming the first active wrestler to receive the honor. He’s the 10th wrestler to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. George Kidd, Andy Robin, Frank Cullen, Bill Ross, Drew McDonald, Chic Purvey, Jim McKenzie, Ian Campbell, and Rusty Blair are the previous inductees.

The induction took place at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow, home of Rangers Football Club. There was a ceremony where Jacqueline McLaren, the Lord Provost of Glasgow, presented McIntyre with a plaque. His induction was organized by wrestling historian Bradley Craig.

“Such an honour to present @WWEUK [superstar] @DMcIntyreWWE with a plaque that inducts him into the Wrestling Hall of Fame of Scotland,” McLaren wrote. “This annual event recognises achievement in a unique art form that combines sportsmanship, live performance & entertainment. Congrats Drew.”

McIntyre, who is a Rangers fan, told The Herald that being inducted at their stadium was mind-blowing. He’s honored to be in the same Hall of Fame as some of the Scottish wrestling legends who came before him.

“There’s very few people in it and to read some of the names in there, they are genuine legends of Scottish wrestling and their contributions are incredible,” McIntyre said. “So the fact I’m the first active wrestler to be inducted is incredible and to be inducted in at Ibrox is blowing my freaking mind.”

On social media, WWE made a post congratulating McIntyre on his induction. McIntyre expressed how proud he is to be from Scotland.

McIntyre is challenging Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Clash at the Castle in Glasgow this Saturday. The event streams live on Peacock/WWE Network starting at 2 p.m. Eastern time.

A big night for Scottish wrestling, this will be the first time the country has ever hosted a WWE PPV/PLE. Home country heroes Piper Niven and Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn are also getting title shots. Bayley vs. Niven for the WWE Women’s Championship is set for the show, along with Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill vs. Fyre & Dawn vs. Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark for the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles.
