WWE SmackDown video highlights: The Rock confronts Roman Reigns

It will be The Rock vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.

On SmackDown last night, the stage was set for a dream match between The Rock and Reigns to headline WrestleMania. The Rock made a surprise appearance on the show and confronted Reigns. While no words were said, it was clear that Rock is challenging Reigns for WrestleMania.

A face-to-face between Reigns and Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes took place in last night’s main event segment. It seemed like Rhodes was going to confirm he’s challenging Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania, but Rhodes then brought out The Rock to confront Reigns. Rhodes said he spoke with friends, family, and legends about his WrestleMania decision, and one of those people was The Rock. Rhodes is still coming after Reigns — but not at WrestleMania. Rhodes said he wants to take everything from Reigns.

The Rock and Rhodes hugged before Rhodes exited the ring. Rock and Reigns then had a staredown as SmackDown went off the air.

WWE did not officially announce Rock vs. Reigns last night. There will be a WrestleMania press event in Las Vegas on Thursday, February 8. It will stream live on Peacock and social media.

One match did become official for WrestleMania 40 last night, though. Damage CTRL split apart with Bayley separating from the group and challenging WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY. Bayley said she isn’t delusional and knows that SKY, Kairi Sane, and Asuka have been talking about her behind her back.
