WWE SmackDown video highlights: John Cena makes an announcement

Last night’s SmackDown set the stage for John Cena’s in-ring return.

After it was revealed earlier in the night that Roman Reigns & Sami Zayn would be facing Kevin Owens and a mystery partner on the final SmackDown of 2022, Cena appeared via video and announced that he’ll be teaming with Owens. The episode is taking place in Tampa, Florida on Friday, December 30.

Cena interrupted The Bloodline and said he was surprised to get a text message from Owens. Owens informed Cena that, while Cena has had a match every year for the past 20 years, he hasn’t wrestled in 2022 yet. Owens asked Cena if he wanted to fix that by teaming with him against Reigns & Zayn. Cena accepted the offer and said they would bring the fight to The Bloodline.

It was hyped going into last night’s SmackDown that it was going to be a big night for Zayn, with Jey Uso speculating that Reigns was officially going to make Zayn “Sami Uso.” But Reigns told Zayn they had a Kevin Owens problem they needed to deal with. Reigns had Paul Heyman call Adam Pearce earlier in the show to request the tag team match.
