WWE SmackDown video highlights: Fastlane build begins

The main event picture for Fastlane was left unclear at the end of last night’s episode of SmackDown.

Last night’s show was headlined by Daniel Bryan facing off against Jey Uso. The match was set up when Bryan confronted Roman Reigns in the opening segment and challenged him to a Universal Championship match at Fastlane. Bryan had won SmackDown’s Elimination Chamber match this past Sunday but then had to immediately challenge for Reigns’ title. Reigns broke out of the Yes Lock and used a guillotine to quickly retain.

Bryan vs. Uso had a stipulation where Bryan would have gotten a Universal Championship shot against Reigns at Fastlane if he won. Instead, the match ended in a double countout. Reigns then attacked Bryan after the match. Bryan put him in the Yes Lock, but Uso hit Bryan with a superkick. The show ended with Reigns putting Bryan in the guillotine again and then posing with the Universal Championship.

Men’s Royal Rumble winner Edge, who will challenge for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 37, didn’t appear to be happy with someone potentially getting a title shot before him. It was said that the original tentative plans for Fastlane were Edge & Bryan facing Reigns & Uso in a tag match.

Women’s Royal Rumble winner Bianca Belair’s WrestleMania 37 decision has also been made official, with her declaring last night that she’ll be challenging for Sasha Banks’ SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania.
