A miscommunication between challenger and champion opens SmackDown

Last night’s edition of SmackDown opened with a Bray Wyatt promo after last week’s loss against Dolph Ziggler. WWE Champion Dean Ambrose interrupted Wyatt after being mentioned, and he was later joined by his SummerSlam challenger when Dolph Ziggler made his way out.

Ziggler rushed the ring to take on Wyatt and Erick Rowan, with Ambrose eventually joining in. Ziggler tried to take out Wyatt with a superkick, but accidentally hit the WWE Champion. Wyatt then laid Ziggler out with Sister Abigail.

Ambrose wasn’t convinced that Ziggler’s superkick was an accident. SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan later announced that the two would team together against Wyatt and Rowan in the show’s main event.

American Alpha look impressive again

After a successful debut against The Vaudevillains last week, American Alpha stayed on the winning track against a team of two enhancement talents. The segment concluded with a brawl between SmackDown’s tag division, with American Alpha coming out on top of that as well.

A video on Apollo Crews aired ahead of him challenging for The Miz’s Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam.

Eva Marie avoids competition again

Eva Marie was able to avoid “injury” this week, but she has still yet to make her post-draft SmackDown debut after suffering a “wardrobe malfunction” last night.

Alexa Bliss picked up an unexpected win in her SmackDown debut over the brand’s first women’s division draft pick after Eva Marie distracted Becky Lynch.

Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio

It was Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio as Orton prepares to face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. Orton won the contest by disqualification after Del Rio hit him with a chair, but Orton came out on top after hitting Del Rio with an RKO to end the segment.

Scooby-Doo makes his second appearance of the week

Scooby-Doo made his second appearance of the week to promote Scooby-Doo! and WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon after appearing in a segment with Goldust and R-Truth on Monday’s Raw. This time, Scooby shared the screen with fellow film star The Miz.

Heath Slater got his latest opportunity to earn a WWE contract against Rhyno. But wrestling’s self-proclaimed hottest free agent left the match still on the market after Rhyno picked up the win with the Gore after Slater tried to get an underhanded pin.

Heath Slater talks his way out of a SmackDown contract

Even though Slater lost, Bryan told Shane McMahon that Slater embodied SmackDown’s fighting spirit and intended to offer him a contract. But Slater talked his way out of the contract after berating the two authority figures.

Carmella makes her SmackDown in-ring debut

It was a successful night for former members of NXT’s women division. After Alexa Bliss was successful in her main roster debut earlier in the show, Carmella was also able to make a strong first impression by defeating Natalya via submission.

Despite both being absent on the show, a video recapping the feud between John Cena and AJ Styles aired

Last night’s SmackDown didn’t feature either a live appearance by John Cena or AJ Styles, but a video aired recapping their feud ahead of their match at SummerSlam.

Baron Corbin attacks Kalisto

Still blaming Kalisto for his loss last week, Baron Corbin attacked the former Lucha Dragon in the back.
