The new face of SmackDown?

Tuesday night’s SmackDown opened with AJ Styles bursting into the locker room and calling himself the new face that runs the place. He began taunting Dolph Ziggler for losing at SummerSlam, causing Ziggler to retaliate and attack Styles.

Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon debut two new titles

After Daniel Bryan teased earlier in the day that SmackDown would debut two championships on last night’s show, Bryan and Shane McMahon unveiled new women’s and tag team titles in the ring.

They announced a six-pack challenge for the women’s title at Backlash, and a tag team tournament that would conclude and crown new champions on the pay-per-view.

Heath Slater interrupted them and wanted a chance to win the tag titles. Bryan and Shane allowed Slater the chance to find a partner by the end of the night, but he would only be added to the SmackDown roster if he wins the entire tournament.

Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss

Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss faced off ahead of both competing in the six-pack challenge at Backlash. Bliss previously picked up a win over Lynch with the help of a distraction from Eva Marie, but it was Lynch who came out on top this time.

The Usos vs. The Ascension

The first tag team title tournament match saw The Usos advance after picking up a win over The Ascension.

Daniel Bryan books SmackDown’s main event

Styles cut a promo inside of the ring about his win over Cena at SummerSlam. He mocked Cena fans, telling them they could become Styles fans because he’s the new face that runs the place.

Styles said he should be the next challenger for Dean Ambrose’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which brought out Ziggler to confront Styles.

Bryan made Styles vs. Ziggler for the main event of SmackDown. If Styles won, he would face Ambrose for the title at Backlash. But if Ziggler won, it would be a triple threat match.

Carmella attacks Nikki Bella

Renee Young attempted to interview Nikki Bella about her return to the ring, but Carmella turned heel in the process and attacked Bella before their match could begin. 

Bray Wyatt interrupts Randy Orton

With 10 staples holding his head together, Randy Orton vowed that he would cross paths with Brock Lesnar again. But Bray Wyatt interrupted Orton and didn’t allow him to finish his promo.

Heath Slater finds a tag partner

Slater found a tag team partner and will be teaming with Rhyno in a tournament match next week.

American Alpha vs. Breezango

American Alpha advanced in the tag title tournament after picking up a win over Breezango.

AJ Styles vs. Dolph Ziggler

It will be Ambrose vs. Styles in a singles match for the title at Backlash after Styles beat Ziggler with the Styles Clash in the main event of SmackDown. After beating Ziggler, Styles went face-to-face with Ambrose ahead of their championship match.

Lynch said every loss and betrayal is like pouring fuel on the fire. She claimed she’s ready to capture SmackDown’s women’s title.

Following their victory earlier in the night, American Alpha said they’re here to win championships.

In what may have been the most noteworthy video highlight from Tuesday night, Daniel Bryan and The Miz got into a heated exchange on Talking Smack.
