WWE reportedly interested in former AEW wrestler as referee

Former AEW and Ring of Honor wrestler Leyla Hirsch has reportedly gained the interest of WWE, but not for the position one might initially expect.
Fightful Select first reported Tuesday that Hirsch was reached out to for a “potential tryout” as a referee, possibly as early as June. The outlet then confirmed Wednesday that Hirsch reached out to WWE to “communicate interest” for a referee spot and that a tryout will happen soon.
Hirsch parted ways with AEW & ROH at the end of February as her contract expired, ending her run with the Tony Khan companies that began in October 2020. The 28-year-old announced in March she was returning to the indies and has wrestled seven times since April including a Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport bout and recently for Beyond Wrestling.
Hirsch’s in-ring career began in 2017, making her AEW debut in October 2020. A torn ACL suffered in 2022 kept the Russian native out of action for more than a year. Of the course of her run, she became more of a fixture in ROH as opposed to AEW.
