WWE hoping for Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 38, deal still not done

Time is running out for a deal to be made between WWE and free agent Cody Rhodes if he is to appear at WrestleMania 38 in Dallas, Texas.

Dave Meltzer briefly discussed the current situation on Wrestling Observer Radio, saying that Rhodes and WWE have yet to come to terms on a return to the company.

He said two sides are still negotiating and that creative had plans for Rhodes at this year’s WrestleMania, but time is running out in order to get things in motion for that.

Meltzer speculated that it would make sense for Rhodes to make his WWE return at this Monday’s Raw in Jacksonville, Florida, but if that Rhodes isn’t there, a deal likely still won’t have been reached.

Last week, Meltzer said that Rhodes’ status with WWE was “very uncertain” after many in the industry assumed he was returning after announcing in mid-February that he and wife, Brandi, would not be returning to AEW.

“His status has changed, in theory,” Meltzer then said of Rhodes. “He was on the books in WWE. They had creative laid out for him. They still thought on Friday (March 4th) that they had creative laid out for him. Now, it’s very uncertain. They don’t know what’s going on with Cody Rhodes. They’re not sure.”

It’s unknown what issues are preventing a deal from being signed.
