WWE fires longtime Spanish-language announcer Carlos Cabrera

Longtime WWE Spanish language announcer Carlos Cabrera is no longer with the company after 29 years.

Hugo Savinovich of Lucha Libre Online first reported the news Thursday. He worked alongside Cabrera in WWE from 1994 through 2011 and was replaced by Marcelo Rodriguez after his own dismissal.

Cabrera also worked with Ed Trucco during his tenure.

No reason was given for why WWE decided now was the time to part ways with the 62-year-old Colombian. According to LLO, Rodríguez will now take over the lead play-by-play role with Jerry Soto as his partner.

It’s unknown whether Rodriguez will take the lead play-by-play role over or who his new broadcast partner will be.

He was the announcer for the Spanish language versions of WWE programming like Raw, SmackDown, NXT and pay-per-view events. He and Savinovich’s broadcast position (“the Spanish announce table”) was a frequent target of spots throughout the Attitude Era and in subsequent years.

Before joining WWE, Cabrera was an ACE award-winning voice-over announcer in both TV and radio.
