WWE bringing SummerSlam to Toronto in 2019

SummerSlam is officially headed to Toronto, Ontario, Canada next year.
WWE announced via Entertainment Tonight Canada today that SummerSlam will take place at the Scotiabank Arena (formerly the Air Canada Centre) in Toronto on August 11, 2019. In addition to the pay-per-view, the venue will host an NXT TakeOver special on August 10, Raw on August 12, and SmackDown on August 13.
A SummerSlam Axxess fan festival is also set for the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
“We are thrilled to bring WWE’s biggest event of the summer back to Toronto,” WWE executive vice president of special events John Saboor said in a statement. “We look forward to working with our partners at Tourism Toronto and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment to build a blueprint that welcomes our global fan base to the great city of Toronto.”
SummerSlam has taken place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York over the last four years, but the New York/New Jersey market is hosting WrestleMania 35 and its surrounding events in 2019.
The only other time SummerSlam has been held in Canada was in 2004, which was also at the Air Canada Centre.
Today’s announcement is in conjunction with Raw and SmackDown both being in Toronto this week.
