WWE 2K22 video game officially announced

WWE 2K22, the next entry in the long-running WWE video game franchise, was shown tonight during WrestleMania 37.
Prior to the Shane McMahon-Braun Strowman steel cage match, a brief video aired showing Rey Mysterio putting on his mask. In-game footage was shown of a match between Rey Mysterio and Cesaro. The video then ended with the tagline “it hits different”. No release date was given other than it was coming soon. You can see the trailer below:

“#WWE2K22,” WWE Games wrote on social media following the reveal. “It Hits Different More info soon… stay tuned.”
Usually an annual release, 2K Games did not release a new entry in the WWE 2K series last year. Instead, they released WWE Battlegrounds, which featured more arcade-style gameplay and also had destructible environments.
The previous game in the 2K series, WWE 2K20, was released in October 2019 to dismal reviews, with the PlayStation 4 version of the game averaging 43% on Metacritic.
