Vince McMahon not backstage at WWE SmackDown

Despite what happened on Raw Monday, Vince McMahon was not backstage at Friday’s SmackDown.

Dave Meltzer confirmed a PWInsider report from earlier the day, saying that McMahon was not backstage at Friday’s show in Portland, Oregon. He did, however, call in remotely and made minor changes to the show.

This is a change from Monday’s show, where it was made clear backstage that McMahon, who was backstage all weekend at WrestleMania, was running the show.

“He was running TV tonight,” Meltzer said back on Monday night. “He’s back. It’s what it was. It will be what it was before. And if people think that was bad, it will be bad. And that’s just the way it is.”

Meltzer said that Raw was changed when McMahon arrived and also changed while the show was airing live.

In an interview with CNBC on Sunday following the confirmation of the WWE/UFC merger, McMahon said that he would remain involved with WWE creative “at a higher level”. Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque still remains as chief content officer of the company.
