VIDEO: WWE pays tribute to ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund

WWE paid tribute to “Mean” Gene Okerlund on Monday’s episode of Raw.
A memorial graphic for Okerlund was shown at the start of the episode. There was a 10-bell salute for Okerlund later in the show, and a tribute video also aired. The episode featured Hulk Hogan’s first appearance on Raw since being fired in July 2015. Hogan wore a “Mean Gene – O – Mania” shirt and spoke about Okerlund.
Okerlund passed away on January 2. He was 76 years old.
Todd Okerlund, one of Okerlund’s sons, told TMZ that his father suffered multiple broken ribs during a fall in December. Todd said Okerlund was admitted to a nursing home four days before his death. Okerlund had trouble breathing and was rushed to the hospital before passing away with his wife, Jeanne, by his side.
Todd said the Okerlund family was touched by all of the support they received for his father.
