VIDEO: John Cena visits disabled teen who fled Ukraine

This past weekend, John Cena took time out of his schedule to visit a Ukrainian refugee with Down syndrome.

Cena visited 19-year-old Misha Rohozhyn and his family in Huizen, Netherlands on June 5. The family had to escape Ukraine in March when their home in Mariupol was destroyed amid Russia’s invasion of the country.

To encourage Misha to continue their journey across Europe, Misha’s mother Liana made up the “motivational fantasy” that they were on their way to find his hero John Cena. With three days off work and only being an hour away by plane, Cena made that fantasy a reality.

“When I read about Misha’s story, it reached out to me. Not just Misha’s story but the story of Misha’s mom as well,” Cena said. “Having three days off from work right at the time when I read this story and being an hour away by air, it turned immediately into ‘we’re going.’ And that means spending an afternoon building blocks and eating cake. That’s a special afternoon when it comes to the new friends I was able to meet.”

Misha and his family’s story was profiled in the Wall Street Journal at the end of May.

On Raw last night, it was announced that Cena will be returning to WWE television to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his debut. Cena will be appearing on the Monday, June 27 episode of Raw in Laredo, Texas.
