UPDATE: WWE ‘has not cancelled’ this week’s SmackDown in Detroit

WWE has issued a statement announcing that this Friday’s SmackDown at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan hasn’t been cancelled: “WWE has not cancelled Friday Night SmackDown in Detroit, however, based on the current situation, we are putting contingency plans in place in the event that upcoming WWE shows are cancelled by government officials, civil authorities and/or local venues.”

It had been reported on Wednesday night, including by Fox 2 in Detroit, that Friday night’s show had been cancelled. There was also talk during the day about the possibility of this week’s SmackDown taking place at the WWE Performance Center.

The NBA announced tonight that it’s season is being suspended until further notice after a Utah Jazz player preliminarily tested positive for coronavirus. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the player is Rudy Gobert.

The Jazz played the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena this past Saturday.

Appearances by John Cena, Paige, and Jeff Hardy have been announced for this week’s SmackDown, with Cena being on the show to further his WrestleMania feud with Bray Wyatt, Paige set for a segment where she will confront Bayley, and Hardy returning for the first time since undergoing knee surgery last year.
