Trish Stratus on wrestling elsewhere: ‘I really am a WWE girl all the way’

Trish Stratus addressed potentially wrestling Mercedes Mone outside of WWE during a recent interview with The Takedown on SI.com.
Stratus and Mone, then known as Sasha Banks, shared a moment in the ring together during the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble match in 2018, with Banks eliminating Stratus from the match. However, a dream bout between the two never materialized. Stratus returned to WWE later that year for Evolution and then wrestled Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam 2019. After that, she didn’t return again until after Mone left the company in 2022.
Stratus said:
“I really think people never thought I’d ever come back for another match. Like after the Royal Rumble, it was enough. It was a little sizzle reel, so to speak, of Trish Stratus and Stratisfaction. Which is not easy to pull off, but it was like, all right. You still got it, or whatever. But to think [I could] come back after how many years to do a match? Like what, [12] years after my retirement… Which is wild. But then, you know, (Banks) left.”
When asked about a possible Stratus vs. Mone match outside of WWE, she responded that she’s “a WWE girl all the way.”
“I really am a WWE girl all the way, I really am,” she said.
Although, she wouldn’t close the door on the idea completely.
“You never know. Who knows? There’s still so much more life to be had.”
The 25th anniversary of Stratus’ WWE debut will happen in March next year. Her first appearance on WWE programming was the March 19, 2000, episode of Sunday Night Heat when she came out managing the T&A team of Test and Albert. Now, nearly a quarter of a century later, Stratus reflects on her career’s influence on today’s stars.
“It’s so cool we did this event with Amy (Dumas), the main event celebration, and we had a journalist who came out and he had a thank-you message. Like basically, he had talked to a bunch of different women’s wrestlers like Thunder Rosa, just people I had no idea we had influenced. I thought that was so special to see that, from TNA to AEW to WWE. It was very special. I get goosebumps thinking about it. You don’t really realize the impact sometimes until you are there.”
