Throwback edition of WWE SmackDown set for next week

Next week’s SmackDown will be a special episode of the show.

During SmackDown tonight, a commercial aired announcing that next Friday’s SmackDown will be a throwback edition of the show. “Next Friday, we’re going back — way back,” the commercial said before announcing that Friday Night SmackDown throwback edition will take place next Friday (May 7). The show will air live on Fox at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

The original “SmackDown!” logo appeared at the end of the announcement.

It’s also been announced that next week will be throwback week on FS1. The throwback episode of SmackDown on Fox and FS1’s throwback week are both taking place leading into NASCAR’s throwback weekend. NASCAR’s Goodyear 400 at the Darlington Raceway is airing on FS1 on Sunday, May 9.

WWE has announced that Cesaro vs. Seth Rollins is set for the throwback edition of SmackDown. Rollins cut a promo on SmackDown tonight challenging Cesaro to face him next week. Cesaro responded later in the show and accepted.

Cesaro vs. Rollins is a rematch from WrestleMania 37. Cesaro defeated Rollins when they faced off at WrestleMania.
