The Rock & Triple H react to John Cena’s heel turn at WWE Elimination Chamber

Triple H and The Rock both responded to John Cena’s heel turn at the end of Elimination Chamber.

During the Elimination Chamber Post Show, Triple H said that Saturday’s events rank up there with some of the biggest moments in WWE’s modern history.

“I’ve been fortunate to be around many of they biggest things in this business in the last, say, 30 years. I don’t know if I’ve ever felt a more powerful moment in the entirety of John Cena’s career, being the one guy that you never really saw…you just, you didn’t see this coming,” he said.

Triple H also praised Cena for doing something drastically different in the final year of his in-ring career.

“It puts you in a place where it’s now or never. And you can ride that out and you can rest on the things that you have done…or somebody like him can double down and say screw it, I want to be challenged right to the last moment, I want to go out on my shield,” he said. “I want to give this everything I have, I want to challenge myself, I want to do something different. I want to be afraid of it, I want to go out there and do it all. And that is the beauty of John Cena.”

Later, The Rock said the show-closing angle was one of those moments that performers live for.

“It was an amazing moment. We as entertainers, whether in pro wrestling or film or television or whatever it is, you really live for moments like that where you can hopefully create something that can be very compelling and moving for the audience and take tonight 38,000 strong here in Toronto and what we have collectively thought about and talked about in the back, before and certainly after this moment, is no one knew really what was going to happen. Maybe a few called it. But for the most part, I thought the moment was incredible and I personally love that.”

“What I felt tonight, and I’ve been a part of some really phenomenal professional wrestling angles and as a kid growing up I’ve seen, we all have, some amazing pro wrestling angles,” he continued. “I felt like tonight stood beside all of those that were the iconic angles.”

Cena himself also appeared briefly at the press conference, but only stuck around long enough to drop a microphone before leaving.

The stunning end of Elimination Chamber saw John Cena attack Cody Rhodes, aligning himself with The Rock after Rhodes refused to hand over his soul to Rock. The two, including Travis Scott, attacked and bloodied Rhodes to close out the show.
