The Rock suggests storyline between himself and Cody Rhodes doesn’t need to lead to a match

The storyline between The Rock and Cody Rhodes might not necessarily lead to a match.

The Rock suggested during a press conference following SmackDown that the storyline that continued on Friday might never actually lead the two to having a one-on-one bout.

“In the world of pro wrestling, as we all know, everything will culminate to a match. Whatever happens, it’ll end up in the ring. What I really love about this rare air space that we’ve gotten to with the character of the Final Boss it’s like this white whale unicorn in that with the Final Boss and Cody Rhodes, it’s not about the WWE title, it’s not about having a match….it never has to culminate to a match. That’s a really special place to be I think creatively and just think character-wise and how much fun you can have,” he said.

“To be able to have a storyline and two characters who are very popular, to never have to get into the ring for a match but yet still hold this really unique, compelling, off-putting, kind of weird…he wants his soul, what does that mean? I love it and loved every minute of it,” he continued.

Rock said that after his promo on SmackDown, he and Cody “had a few tequilas.”

During his promo on Friday, The Rock said that he wanted Cody to be his champion, and would be at the Elimination Chamber on March 1 for an answer. Before leaving, he told Cody Rhodes there was nothing more in the world he wanted that that, seemingly referring to the WWE Championship. When Cody asked if that was what this was all about, The Rock said it wasn’t about the WWE Championship, he wanted Cody’s soul.
