The Rock: Me vs. Roman Reigns could produce biggest WWE WrestleMania ever

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson thinks that, if he and Roman Reigns were to headline a WrestleMania, it could be the biggest WrestleMania of all time.

It was announced on Tuesday morning that Johnson has been appointed to the board of directors of WWE’s parent company TKO Group Holdings. Along with that, Johnson has secured full ownership of his “The Rock” name.

As part of a media tour following the announcement, Johnson appeared on ESPN’s First Take. The subject of a potential Rock vs. Roman Reigns dream match came up. Johnson said that he thinks the match could help produce the greatest and biggest WrestleMania ever.

Look, you guys know, I feel like you know me – I’m a long-gamer. I like to build. And what this is, if myself and Roman Reigns were to main event WrestleMania, and I mean this very respectfully of all the WrestleManias prior because I grew up in this business and I love it, we could possibly put on – with us as the main event and this incredible group of men and women who are these incredible performers – we could possibly put on the greatest and the biggest WrestleMania of all time.

Johnson said he has a “deep passion” to grow WWE, and he wants the world to watch if he faces Reigns.

There’s a chance [that Johnson faces Reigns]. I love this business, I love pro wrestling, I love WWE. But also I have this deep passion to grow it and to build it. And if we’re going to do something like this, I want the world to watch.

When asked what he means by growing WWE and taking it to another level, Johnson said he feels there’s still a “global footprint” that WWE can continue to anchor into. There are new places to go and people to reach. Johnson said that, if there were going to be a Rock vs. Reigns WrestleMania, he wants to cast that net as wide as possible.

Johnson made a surprise return to WWE programming on the Day 1 episode of Raw earlier this month. He teased that he wants to face Reigns and take Reigns’ spot at the head of the table.

Reigns is defending his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in a fatal four-way match against Randy Orton, LA Knight, and AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble this Saturday (January 27). That night, Cody Rhodes will look to win the men’s Royal Rumble match for the second straight year and earn a WrestleMania 40 title shot against Reigns.
