The Rock attached to star in Martin Scorsese movie

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson might be set for one of his biggest movie roles ever.
Deadline reported today that The Rock, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Emily Blunt are attached to star in an untitled drama that would be directed by the legendary Martin Scorsese. The three stars and Scorsese would also be producers of the film. Deadline’s report states that, while everyone involved is engaged in other projects, Hollywood “quickly sparked to [this] pitch” and “multiple bids are either on the table or are fast mobilizing.”
The movie would be set in Hawaii in the 1960s-1970s and would focus on a “ruthless” Hawaiian mob boss who battles rivals for control of organized crime on the island.
“To be written by Nick Bilton, the film focuses on a turbulent time on the island paradise when an aspiring mob boss battled rival crime factions to wrest control of the underworld of the Hawaiian islands,” Deadline wrote. “It was a bloody battle, the kind of terrain Scorsese covered in both ‘Goodfellas’ and ‘The Departed.’ In 1960s and 70s Hawaii, this formidable and charismatic mob boss rises to build the islands’ most powerful criminal empire, waging a brutal war against mainland corporations and rival syndicates while fighting to preserve his ancestral land. It’s based on the untold true story of a man who fought to preserve his homeland through a ruthless quest for absolute power — igniting the last great American mob saga, where the war for cultural survival takes place in the unlikeliest of places: paradise.”
The Rock and Blunt have been co-stars in the past and are also starring together in “The Smashing Machine,” an upcoming biopic on MMA legend Mark Kerr that has already been filmed. Deadline writes that The Rock and Blunt pitched the idea for this new project to Scorsese and DiCaprio, who were receptive.
After returning to the ring at WrestleMania 40, The Rock has not been involved in the mix for WrestleMania 41 so far — but he will be appearing on SmackDown tomorrow night. He also appeared on Raw’s Netflix premiere on January 6 and NXT New Year’s Evil the following day.
