Sheamus not thinking about retirement: ‘I’ll go until the wheels fall off’

Though he’s turning 47 years old later this month, Sheamus isn’t thinking about ending his in-ring career any time soon.
Sheamus recently signed a new five-year contract with WWE that will keep him with the company into his 50s. While appearing on the latest episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, he was asked about his in-ring future. Sheamus said he loves wrestling and could do it as long as he is physically capable. He doesn’t want to be someone who retired too early and regrets it.
“Not really. Again, I just signed a new five-year deal,” Sheamus responded when asked if he’s thought about how many more years he wants to wrestle. “My wife reminds me all the time, [the deal will take me until I’m] 52. Is it 52? Listen, I’ll go until the wheels fall off me. I could do it until physically I can’t do it anymore. I love what I do. And, listen, there’s plenty of time to sit back and read a book and just watch TV.
“Like, there’s a lot of that, you know? I know a lot of people, I’ve talked to some talent as well. You meet them all at Mania and everything when they come in, especially the Hall of Fame, but also everybody gets invited to Mania. You can tell a lot of the talents who just retired too early. I mean, look, if I had to hang up my boots when that stuff happened with my neck [when he was out of action from August 2023 to April 2024], I’d be at peace with it, right? Because you know there’s nothing you could do. But when some talent that retired before their time, you can tell there’s a bit of regret there.”
Sheamus said he loves it in WWE and appreciates how the roster has supported his Celtic Warrior Workouts YouTube channel, which recently passed the one-million subscriber mark.
On screen, Sheamus’ focus remains on going after the Intercontinental title — a championship he has never won in his 15+ years with WWE. The title is currently held by Bron Breakker.
