Roman Reigns to headline WWE WrestleMania Backlash

Despite not yet having a match announced, Roman Reigns will headline WWE’s next pay-per-view.

Dave Meltzer confirmed on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that Reigns will main event WrestleMania Backlash. The PPV is taking place at Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island on Sunday, May 8.

“We were talking a couple days ago about — since they haven’t shot any angle with him [Reigns] — maybe they’re doing a pay-per-view without him. That is not the case,” Meltzer said. “He is, in fact, in the main event. I presume they’ll shoot the angle on Friday. I don’t know that as a fact, I would presume it. But he is in the main event on the WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view.”

Reigns became the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion by defeating Brock Lesnar in a title unification match in the main event of WrestleMania 38 night two earlier this month.

Reigns didn’t appear on SmackDown last Friday. The previous week, he told The Usos that it’s time to unify their SmackDown Tag Team titles with the Raw Tag Team titles. Shinsuke Nakamura also confronted Reigns and The Usos during the segment and got laid out with a double superkick by The Usos.

The Usos vs. RK-Bro in a Tag Team title unification match has been confirmed for WrestleMania Backlash. Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey in an “I Quit” match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship is also set for the PPV, along with Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins and AJ Styles vs. Edge.
