Rollins vs. Mysterio title match set for WWE Raw season premiere

Rey Mysterio is getting a Universal title shot on Raw’s “season premiere” next week.

Universal Champion Seth Rollins will defend his title against Mysterio next Monday. Mysterio getting the title shot was set up by him winning a fatal five-way number one contender’s elimination match on tonight’s Raw.

The match came down to Mysterio vs. Robert Roode, with Mysterio pinning Roode after hitting the 619 and a frog splash. Ricochet was eliminated first, Shinsuke Nakamura was eliminated second, and AJ Styles was eliminated third.

Before the number one contender’s match, Mysterio dedicated it to his son Dominick. There was a storyline last month where Dominick talked Mysterio out of retiring.

Next week’s Raw and SmackDown are the go-home shows for Hell in a Cell. The Fiend will challenge for the Universal title in a Hell in a Cell match at the pay-per-view.

WWE’s new TV schedule begins next week. Raw will still air on the USA Network on Mondays, and SmackDown will move to airing on FOX on Fridays.

Next week’s Raw season premiere is taking place at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. Brock Lesnar will also appear on the show, The Miz will host a Miz TV segment with Hulk Hogan & Ric Flair, and Sasha Banks will face Alexa Bliss.
