Rockstar Spud debuts as WWE 205 Live GM, title tournament set

Rockstar Spud, who is now known as “Drake Maverick,” made his WWE debut on 205 Live tonight and was named general manager of the show.

Daniel Bryan came out with Spud to open tonight’s episode. Spud got a solid reaction, and Bryan called him someone who is going to usher in a new era for 205 Live. Bryan said Spud’s leadership will give the audience the kind of action that everyone wants and that the cruiserweights always should have given them.

Spud said he’s worked his entire life to be in WWE. He then announced a 16-man single-elimination tournament to crown a new Cruiserweight Champion, with the finals scheduled to take place at WrestleMania.

The tournament kicked off tonight with Cedric Alexander defeating Gran Metalik and TJP advancing over Tyler Bate. Hideo Itami vs. Roderick Strong and Kalisto vs. Lince Dorado are set for next week.

After departing Impact Wrestling, Spud signed with WWE towards the end of last year. His arrival on 205 Live had been considered imminent for several weeks.
