WWE Survivor Series live results: Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg

Preview by Joseph Currier
WWE’s three-show weekend at the Air Canada Centre continues tonight as Survivor Series takes place in Toronto.
The most hyped thing on the show is Goldberg’s return to the ring for his first match in over 12 years. Stemming from the promotion of the WWE 2K17 video game, Brock Lesnar called out Goldberg to get revenge for his WrestleMania XX loss. Goldberg answered the challenge and the two will meet tonight after Lesnar backed away from confrontation on last week’s Raw.
We’re looking for your thoughts on both this show and the NXT Takeover show last night so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to dave@wrestlingobserver.com
Raw and SmackDown will battle in three traditional Survivor Series elimination tag team matches pitting the best of the men’s, women’s, and tag team divisions against each other.
There are also two scheduled championship matches pitting Raw against SmackDown. The cruiserweight division will be on the line as Brian Kendrick defends the WWE Cruiserweight Championship against Kalisto. If Kalisto wins, SmackDown will get the entire division.
And The Miz will defend the Intercontinental Championship against Sami Zayn after Miz defeated Dolph Ziggler for the title on last week’s SmackDown.
Dave Meltzer’s live coverage kicks off after 5 p.m. ET with the first pre-show match before the main card begins at 7 p.m. ET.
**********
– DREW GULAK & TONY NESE & ARIYA DAIVARI VS. TJ PERKINS & RICH SWANN & NOAM DAR
This was a good opener in what was pushed as a preview of 205 Live. The match was fast paced, but the crowd treated it like a pre-show match no matter what they did. It was the basic sold work with heat on Dar, a hot tag to Swann, and a series of dives peaking with Perkins hitting a running dive over the referee onto almost everyone. Swann is clearly getting the babyface push as he pinned Daivari with a spinning heel kick and a standing 450 splash.
– KANE VS. LUKE HARPER
This was a basic match that the crowd wasn’t into. Harper did a lot of his flying moves like a dive and a dropkick. The timing wasn’t the best on some of the moves. Harper went for the discus clothesline, but Kane blocked it and gave him a chokeslam for the pin..
– SURVIVOR SERIES RULES: WWE WOMEN’S CHAMPION CHARLOTTE & BAYLEY & SASHA BANKS & ALICIA FOX & NIA JAX VS. BECKY LYNCH & NAOMI & NATALYA & ALEXA BLISS & CARMELLA
Nikki Bella was atacked from behind by a mystery person and can’t compete, so Natalya is taking her place. Since the show is In Toronto, Nattie got a big pop. The impression was that she attacked her to get into the match. Charlotte & Bayley were the remaining Survivors as Bayley pinned Lynch with the belly to belly. Charlotte destroyed Bayley after the match even though Bayley won it for her.
- Fox pinned Carmella with the axe kick.
- Bliss pinned Fox with Twisted Bliss
- Naomi was counted out after Jax threw her into the post. The crowd was going nuts with 10 chants.
- Natalya pinned Banks with a schoolboy.
- Charlotte pinned Nattie with a running kick.
- Lynch beat Jax with the disarmer afer a botched double DDT with Bliss
- Charlotte pinned Bliss with a running kick
- Bayley pinned Lynch to win it.
Anderson & Gallows were bullying Ellsworth until Mick Foley came out to save him. They did some comedy and Foley invited Ellsworth to Raw but Ellsworth said he wanted to stay on Smackdown. There was comedy where Ellsworth talked about Undertaker tossing off Foley from the HIAC. Foley talked about how tossing off has different meanings. Strowman then confronted Ellsworth who got scared.
– I-C CHAMPION THE MIZ VS. SAMI ZAYN
Canadian native Zayn got a big reaction. Zayn had Miz in the figure four but Maryse started ringing the bell. Zayn started celebrating and Miz won with a schoolboy to retain, so the title stays on SmackDown. It was a very good match up to that point. Miz continued to do Daniel Bryan spots with some better, and some not so great.
Dean Ambrose and A.J. Styles were watching the match in the same room, noting that they just had a team victory. They started talking about their TLC match in two weeks. Shane McMahon told them to focus on the match tonight.
– SURVIVOR SERIES RULES: ENZO & CASS & WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS NEW DAY & SHINING STARS & GALLOWS & ANDERSON & CESARO & SHEAMUS VS. AMERICAN ALPHA & HEATH SLATER & SMACKDOWN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS RHYNO & BREEZANGO & USOS & HYPE BROS
This was a super match. Cesaro beat Jey with the sharpshooter as Sheamus gave Jimmy the Brogue kick when they were the last two left. Lots of great work with cool moves that built great for the finish with Cesaro doing incredible work at the end.
- New Day with double team Big Ending on Fandango
- Jey superkicked Kingston right after.
- Gallows pinned Ryder with the Magic Killer.
- Jordan pinned Primo after he and Gable did the sky high bulldog.
- Jordan was pinned after the Magic Killer.
- Rhyno gored Gallows for the pin.
- Enzo pinned Rhyno with the Rocket Launcher.
- Jey pinned Enzo with a splash off the top.
This left Cesaro & Sheamus vs. Usos. They had a great several minutes of near falls. The crowd was really into the ending but really into everything because the action was great from start to finish.
Stephanie announced Sheamus & Cesaro getting a title shot at the New Day tomorrow night on Raw.
– WWE CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPION BRIAN KENDRICK VS. KALISTO
Given the time on the show and following such a great match, they didn’t have a lot of heat, but at least had more than the cruiserweights have been getting. Kalisto got out of the Captain’s Hook, and Kendrick made the ropes on the Salida del sol. The finish saw Baron Corbin attack Kendrick, so it was ruled Kendrick won via DQ. They were having a really good match up until that point. Corbin then laid out Kalisto including End of Days. So, the cruiserweights stay on Raw.
Daniel Bryan yelled at Corbin for costing Smackdown the cruiserweight division. Corbin said Kalisto is a little pest who won’t go away and the last thing they need is more little pests running around as he looked at little Bryan. Bryan vowed to take care of this on Tuesday.
– SURVIVOR SERIES RULES: US CHAMPION ROMAN REIGNS & WWE UNIVERSAL CHAMPION KEVIN OWENS & SETH ROLLINS & CHRIS JERICHO & BRAUN STROWMAN VS. WWE CHAMPION AJ STYLES & DEAN AMBROSE & BRAY WYATT & RANDY ORTON & SHANE MCMAHON
- Strowman pinned Ambrose with a powerslam after Ambrose and Jericho turned on each other.
- Strowman was counted out after Shane did an elbow off the top rope through the American announcers’ table. Strowman would have been able to beat the count but Ellsworth hid under the ring and held Strowman’s leg. Strowman destroyed Ellsworth after, chasing him up the stage where Ellsworth did the horror movie trip and fall, leading to Strowman throwing him off the stage through a table.
- Owens was DQ’d for hitting Styles with the list of Jericho.
- Orton then pinned Jericho with an RKO after Jericho was distracted picking up the list.
- Shane went for a coast-to-coast dropkick, but got hit with a Reigns spear. Shane looked to have been hurt because when Reigns went for the pin, Shane seemed to instinctively kick out but then it was stopped. Shane was carried out, but not on a stretcher or carefully. The match did stop for a minute or so while they got him out of there. He was very dazed following the spear.
- Ambrose came back in and went after Styles. Security came out. Rollins & Reigns laid out all the security that stopped Ambrose. They did the Shield triple team power bomb spot on Styles and Rollins pinned Styles.
- Luke Harper showed up at ringside.
- Rollins went for a frog splash on Wyatt, but Orton hit an RKO and pinned him. Reigns is left with Orton & Wyatt.
The finish saw Reigns set up the spear on Wyatt, but Orton shoved Wyatt out of the way and took the spear himself. Wyatt then pinned Reigns after Sister Abigail.
So, the idea was to heavily elevate the Wyatt family since it ended with Wyatt, Orton, and Harper celebrating together. It went 52 minutes. Some of the stuff with Shane was bad, but his effort was off the charts. The match was super with all kinds of twists and turns.
– BILL GOLDBERG VS. BROCK LESNAR
Goldberg won in one minute, 25 seconds after two spears and a jackhammer. Yes, you read that right. The match started with Lesnar running Goldberg into a corner and Goldberg shoving Lesnar down. When he went to get up, he hit the first spear. He then hit the second spear which led to the Jackhamer and quick win.
After the match, Goldberg celebrated in the ring with his son after Lesnar and Heyman disappeared.
Obviously, they have to do a rematch. It was a gutsy move to do the match this way, but it totally worked.
We’ll discuss the entire show and what it all means on tonight’s Wrestling Observer Radio for subscribers.
