WWE SmackDown live results: Shane McMahon’s town hall meeting

The build to SummerSlam continues as SmackDown takes place from the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Shane McMahon hosts a town hall meeting with the roster tonight. Last week, McMahon banned Kevin Owens from the arena, but Owens returned later. Owens complained about McMahon taking away TV time from the talent. Tonight, McMahon gives the roster a chance to air their grievances.

Daniel Bryan promises to make a huge career-changing announcement tonight. Bryan gave a passionate interview after losing the SmackDown Tag Team titles at Extreme Rules. He was devastated over losing the titles but soon realized he has another purpose.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions The IIconics defend against The Kabuki Warriors tonight. Asuka and Kairi Sane earned the title shot after defeating the champions a few weeks ago in Tokyo, Japan in a non-title match.

Plus, Ember Moon and a mystery partner take on Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville.

Earlier today, Shane McMahon met Kevin Owens in the back with security. McMahon mentioned the town hall meeting later. McMahon’s not going to let Owens speak lies about him.

Owens pointed out he works for WWE, not Shane. McMahon didn’t want Owens involved in the town hall meeting and barred him from the building.

In the ring, McMahon stood alone with the SmackDown roster on the stage. They recapped McMahon & Drew McIntyre vs. Roman Reigns & Undertaker from Extreme Rules.

McMahon pointed out that Owens has the night off. Owens gave him the idea to host the town hall. Any superstar can say whatever they want. There were two microphones set up in front of the roster.

Roman Reigns walked up to the mic. He said nobody on the roster likes Shane and told McMahon to kiss his ass. McMahon fined Reigns for that comment. McMahon then asked Charlotte Flair to approach the mic. She was shocked by Reigns comments and Owens actions. She praised McMahon and his family.

Liv Morgan interrupted and complained about Flair. Flair didn’t realize Morgan still had a job.

Flair pointed out that Owens said Morgan’s name last week. Morgan tried to respond, but McMahon interrupted her and wants to move on.

He called up Buddy Murphy. Murphy doesn’t need Owens to fight his battle and thinks Owens should keep his name out of his mouth. McMahon liked Murphy and wants to speak with him later.

McMahon then called up Apollo Crews who Owens also mentioned last week. Crews said the entire roster agreed with Owens comments. Zelina Vega interrupted and challenged Crews to a match for later against Andrade.

Elias approached the mic, but New Day interrupted before he could speak. Kofi Kingston pointed out he feuded with Owens but did agree with him. Kingston noted out all the obstacles in his way. Kingston’s mic cut off, and McMahon ended the meeting. The roster walked off.

Cesaro walked down to the ring. McMahon pointed out that he’s on Raw, not SmackDown. Cesaro challenged Aleister Black for later.

McMahon began addressing the fans when Kevin Owens appeared and nailed McMahon with the Stunner. Initially, they messed up the Stunner, but Owens hit it on the second try. The town hall was a bit of a mess with a lot going on.

Aleister Black defeated Cesaro

This was an excellent hard-hitting match. They traded hard shots early, but Black gained the advantage. He sent Cesaro to the floor with a hard kick. He teased a dive but hit a black flip into his pose.

During the break, Cesaro took over and rocked Black with uppercuts. Black fought back, but Cesaro lifted him and hit an uppercut for a near fall. He slowed the pace down with a chin lock.

Black made a comeback and hit a moonsault for a near fall. Cesaro hit an uppercut and boot for a two count. Cesaro transited into the cross face, but Black rolled him up from a near fall.

Cesaro went shoulder-first into the ring post, and Black hit Black Mass for the win. 

In the back, Dolph Ziggler approached Shane McMahon. Ziggler thinks he should be the one to take care of Owens.

McMahon said it’s too late because Owens left. Ziggler promised he could make the match happen.

They aired Daniel Bryan’s post-Extreme Rules interview. He was furious about losing the tag titles and not elevating the division. He began speaking in a low voice and said he has to go someplace he’s never gone before.

Charlotte Flair defeated Liv Morgan

Flair shoved Morgan to the ground. Morgan fired up and hit a hurricanrana and a dropkick. Flair quickly took over and hit hard chops. Morgan fought back and scored a two count.

Morgan attempted another hurricanrana, but Flair caught her and hit a powerbomb. Flair won the match using the Figure Eight.

Morgan limped over to the commentators and grabbed Corey Graves’s headset. She said Flair was right and when she comes back, she’s going to be real.

In the back, Dolph Ziggler got Kevin Owens phone number from the referee.

Ember Moon & SmackDown Woman’s Champion Bayley defeated Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville

The heels jumped the faces to gain an early advantage. Bayley fought back with a back suplex. Moon got the hot tag and ran wild on Rose. Bayley took out Deville with a Bayley-to-Belly and Moon hit the Eclipse on Rose for the win.

After the match, Kayla Braxton interviewed Bayley and Moon. Braxton asked about Bayley’s next challenger for SummerSlam.

Bayley said she’s happy to be done with Alexa Bliss and is ready to elevate the Woman’s SmackDown division. Bayley offered Moon a title shot, and Moon accepted the challenge.

In the back, Sara Schreiber interviewed Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. He said he’s ready to reign down chaos on SmackDown. Ali approached Nakamura and congratulated him on winning the title.

Daniel Bryan and Rowan were on their way to the ring for Bryan’s career-changing announcement.

They recapped Shane McMahon barring Kevin Owens from the building. Tom Philips noted that Owens is on his way back to face Dolph Ziggler.

The New Day made their way down to the ring. On commentary, Tom Philips pointed out Daniel Bryan was supposed to make his announcement.

Xavier Woods noted Kofi Kingston retained the WWE Championship against Samoa Joe. Kingston discussed Woods and Big E winning the SmackDown tag team titles. Big E said they know what the announcement is and accepted Bryan’s challenge for the tag titles.

Bryan and Rowan walked down the aisle. Bryan walked off but then came back out. He acted as if he was going to speak but again walked off. They walked back out and again teased speaking.

The fans broke into a “New Day Rocks” chant. Bryan dropped the mic and finally left. 

Samoa Joe’s music hit, and he walked out. Joe challenged Kingston for the WWE Championship tonight.

Elias walked out and noted Joe already had a title shot. He said he’s ready to challenge for the title. Randy Orton then walked out and demanded a title shot as well.

Elias noted that all three couldn’t get a title shot tonight but they can team up against New Day. New Day agreed to the challenge, but Orton changed his mind. He started to walk off. Kingston thought the Viper would be ready to strike, but instead, he’s gone limp. Orton turned around and walked towards the ring.

Randy Orton, Elias & Samoa Joe defeated The New Day

Big E hit a splash on Joe for a near fall. Big E and Woods hit a wheelbarrow into a pin for a two count. Woods hit the honor roll on Elias for a near fall. Orton interfered, and Elias took over on Woods.

The heels isolated Woods and cut him off from his partners. Kingston and Big E got knocked off the apron. Joe rocked Big E with a boot on the floor. Elias placed Woods on the top turnbuckle, but Woods fought back. Woods hit a missile dropkick and Kingston got the hot tag.

Kingston went from Trouble In Paradise on Orton, but he avoided. Orton attempted the RKO, but Kingston fought off. Kingston hit a cross body, but Elias broke up the pin.

Woods sent Joe to the floor and hit a huge dive. Joe applied the Coquina Clutch on Woods and Elias took out Big E with a knee.

Kingston rocked Elias with Trouble In Paradise. He turned around, and Orton hit the RKO for the win.

In the back, Carmella found 24/7 Champion R-Truth hiding in a washing machine. Carmella told him to hide out at comic-con instead. 

The Kabuki Warriors (w/Paige) defeated WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions The IIconics Count Out

This was kept short. The Warriors used a series of double team moves to score a near fall. The IIconics briefly took over. Asuka rocked Kay with a kick, and she rolled to the floor. Kay was about to enter but took the count-out loss instead.

The Kabuki Warriors jumped the champions after the match. Kairi Sane hit the Insane Elbow on Kay.

Apollo Crews defeated Andrade (w/Zelina Vega)

Andrade jumped Crews as he entered the ring. The referee checked on Crews before ringing the bell. Andrade was firmly in control and rocked Crews with a back elbow.

Andrade hit the double knees in the corner and went for the pin. Crews reversed and rolled up Andrade for the win.

They recapped Bray Wyatt’s appearance on Raw last night attacking Finn Bálor.

Kevin Owens defeated Dolph Ziggler

Owens walked slowly to the ring, looking over both of his shoulders. Ziggler went for a superkick, but he avoided. Owens attempted the Stunner, but Ziggler rolled to the floor. Owens hit a dive to the floor. He went for a Swanton Bomb, but Ziggler got the knees up.

Ziggler slowed the pace down and applied the cross face. Owens fought back but missed a charge in the corner. Ziggler hit a DDT for a close near fall.

Ziggler missed a splash and Owens hit a superkick. Owens hit the Swanton on his second try for a two count.

Shane McMahon came down to the ring with a bunch of wrestlers including Drew McIntyre, Elias, B Team, AOP, Andrade, Samoa Joe, Buddy Murphy and more.

Owens was distracted, and Ziggler hit the Zig-Zag for a two count. Ziggler was firmly in control and sent Owens into the ring post twice. He went for the superkick, but Owens countered with the Stunner.

McMahon pulled Owens out of the ring, but Owens hit the Stunner on McMahon. Owens then ran to the back with a bunch of superstars chasing him.

Kayla Braxton interviewed McMahon, and he said Owens is going to pay for this.
