WWE SmackDown live results: Royal Rumble aftermath

WWE wraps up four straight days in Phoenix, Arizona as tonight’s SmackDown takes place at the Talking Stick Resort Arena.

SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka defeated Becky Lynch by submission at the Royal Rumble to retain. Later, Lynch entered and won the women’s Rumble match by last eliminating Charlotte Flair.

Lynch is set to take on Raw Woman’s Champion Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania, but Flair isn’t done with Lynch and responds to losing the Rumble tonight. Plus, Asuka awaits her next challenger.

WWE Champion Daniel Bryan defeated AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble with the help of Erick Rowan. Tonight, Bryan promises to change the climate of WWE forever.

Shane McMahon and The Miz defeated The Bar on Sunday to win the SmackDown Tag Team titles. McMahon and Miz have a special celebration planned for tonight. Plus, Rusev and Lana react to Rusev losing the U.S. title to Shinsuke Nakamura and Lana’s injury.

Becky Lynch came down to the ring to start SmackDown. The fans were already chanting her name before her music hit. Lynch talked about winning the Rumble and showing up on Raw last night. She pointed out that she lost to Asuka but still came out to win the Rumble.

Lynch also discussed confronting Raw Woman’s Champion Ronda Rousey. Lynch is proud of working her way from the WrestleMania pre-show last year to the main event this year. The fans broke into a “You Deserve It” chant. Lynch promised to break Rousey’s arm and win the title at WrestleMania.

Charlotte Flair interrupted and came down to the ring. Flair took credit for Lynch worming her way into the Rumble and winning. She faked being happy for Lynch and noted Lynch learned something from her. Lynch heard enough and knocked Flair down.

Lynch walked away up the aisle when Flair jumped her from behind. They brawled around ringside and Flair attacked Lynch’s injured leg. Officials and referees struggled to separate them.

R-Truth (w/Carmella) defeated United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura To Win The Title

Before the match Truth talked about Nia Jax jumping him and preventing him from entering the Rumble match at number 30. Carmella noted they worked hard to win the Mix Match Challenge and Truth deserved to be in that match. Truth claimed that if Jax didn’t jump him he would have won. Truth said the McMahon’s agree and granted him a U.S. Championship title shot.

Nakamura caught Truth with a knee to start the match. Nakamura quickly went for Kinshasa but Truth countered. Nakamura hit two running knees in the corner for a near fall.

Nakamura set up for landslide but Truth rolled him up for the win. Nakamura and Truth jumped to their feet and continued the match but the referee called for the bell. There seemed to be some confusion. This actually seemed like it wasn’t the planned finish. On the other hand, it might have just been done very well.

After the match, Rusev and Lana came out. Rusev was angry about losing the title at the Royal Rumble and challenged Truth to a match right now. Carmella pushed Lana. Truth and Rusev got in each other’s faces. Truth finally agreed to the match.

U.S Champion R-Truth (w/Carmella) defeated Rusev (w/Lana)

Rusev was firmly in control early on. The finish came when Truth suddenly rolled up Rusev for the win.

Nakamura ran back out and jumped Truth from behind. Rusev and Nakamura worked together to beat down Truth. Rusev first hit the Machka Kick and Nakamura followed up with the Kinshasa. Both Rusev and Nakamura were heavily booed.

In the back, Kayla Braxton tried to interview Becky Lynch. Lynch was limping to her car. Braxton noted that Lynch turned down medical help. Lynch said she doesn’t need to be on the shelf again and left the arena. 

In the back, the medical staff checked on a hurt R-Truth. He insisted he was feeling okay.

Rey Mysterio came down to the ring. Zelina Vega came out and said she knew it was Mysterio who got her banned from ringside last week. She wondered if she is too much of a distraction for him.

Andrade jumped Mysterio from behind. He hit the Three Amigos suplex and mocked Eddie Guerrero. Mysterio countered the third suplex into the 619 but Andrade fought back. Andrade then hit the HammerLock DDT on Mysterio.

In the locker room, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows approached Rusev. They didn’t like how he and Nakamura attacked Truth. Anderson and Gallows challenged Rusev and Nakamura to a match. Nakamura accepted the challenge. Rusev said he’d team with him one time and not to screw him over.

New SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Miz and Shane McMahon came out to celebrate their title win. McMahon noted that he achieved a childhood dream by winning the titles. McMahon has something special planned for Miz. To show his appreciation McMahon put together a special video on how they became a team.

McMahon noted he was hesitant to tag with Miz. That changed when Miz told him the story about making his father proud. McMahon then brought out Miz’s father. The fans chanted “Mr. Miz”. George Mizanin told Miz he loves him and is proud of him. McMahon admitted that moment made him emotional.

McMahon then announced a four-way number one contenders match to determine their next challengers and that match starts now.

In the back, Kayla Braxton interviewed Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. They announced their intention to win the Women’s Tag Team titles at Elimination Chamber.

Rose noted it’s not easy being her. She pointed out that people are always trying to knock her down. Braxton wondered why Rose tried to destroy Naomi. Rose showed footage from Tough Enough from years ago.

In the footage, Naomi called Rose weak and demanded Tamina splash Rose. Rose claimed that she was so upset she cried. She developed a complex and her boyfriend broke up with her. That’s why she decided to break up Naomi’s marriage. For now, Rose is going to focus on winning the tag titles. 

The Usos defeated The New Day, The Bar And Heavy Machinery In A Number One Contenders Match

Otis Dozovic and Kofi Kingston started the match. Big E and Dozovic went face-to-face but Big E couldn’t apply the abdominal stretch on Dozovic. The Bar isolated Jimmy on their side of the ring.

Jey got the hot tag and ran wild on Sheamus. Jey fall to the floor but Big E made the blind tag. Dozovic tagged himself in as well. Heavy Machinery hit The Compactor on Kingston for the first elimination.

Cesaro slowed down the match and worked over Tucker Knight. Dozovic got the hot tag and ran wild on The Bar. Dozovic hit the Worm into an elbow for a near fall. Cesaro nailed Knight and Sheamus hit the Brogue Kick for the next elimination.

The Usos ran wild on The Bar. They hit a superkick and big splash to win the match and earn a tag team title shot at Elimination Chamber.

WWE Champion Daniel Bryan came down to the ring. Bryan asked the fans if they know who won at the Royal Rumble. The fans broke into a loud “Becky” chant. Bryan said no. He said the fans and their children won because he won.

He reminded everyone that he’s the planet’s champion. He doesn’t expect the people to understand since they don’t know what winning is like. That’s okay because he found somebody that listens to him. This brought out Rowan.

Bryan noted that Rowan enjoys reading and is Bryan’s intellectual peer. He pointed out that AJ Styles is right sometimes. Bryan admitted to being a hypocrite because he carries around the WWE Championship. Bryan noted the belt is made from cow. He named the cow Daisy and the fans broke into a “Daisy” chant. Bryan said that Daisy had to give her life for a symbol. Rowan brought in a garbage can and Bryan threw the belt in the trash. The fans broke into a “Goodbye Daisy” chant.

Bryan said when he became champion he promised to change the WWE. He revealed a new belt made from organic hemp and carved from a naturally fallen oak tree. AJ Styles interrupted. Styles asked Bryan if he smoked the championship belt. Suddenly, Randy Orton interrupted Styles.

Back from commercial, Mustafa Ali was on his way down to the ring demanding a title shot. Jeff Hardy was already standing in the ring. Samoa Joe interrupted and demanded a title shot as well.

Hardy tried to speak but Joe told him to treat this as an AA meeting and shut his mouth while Joe talks to the group. Joe asked Styles about his wife Wendy and a brawl broke out. Bryan yelled that none of them deserve a title shot against him.

HHH appeared on the big screen and interrupted Bryan. HHH noted that Bryan is not defending the title against one of them. Instead, he defends against all 5 guys in the Elimination Chamber.
