WWE SmackDown live results: Roman Reigns vs. Buddy Murphy

WWE wraps up four straight days in Toronto as SmackDown takes place at the Scotiabank Arena tonight.

Roman Reigns goes one-on-one with Buddy Murphy. Last week, Reigns’ mystery attacker angle was furthered when he confronted Murphy about information that Murphy knew. Murphy claimed it was Rowan that knocked over the scaffolding and tried to run Reigns over.

Ember Moon vs. Charlotte Flair is also set for tonight. Moon lost to SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley at SummerSlam, while Charlotte defeated Trish Stratus.

WWE Champion Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton went to a double countout at SummerSlam. After the match, Kingston viciously attacked Orton with a kendo stick and hit the Trouble in Paradise. Tonight, Orton responds to Kingston’s post-match beatdown.  

Kevin Owens defeated Shane McMahon this past Sunday night with the stunner. The stipulation for the match was that Owens would have to quit WWE if he lost. WWE.com is teasing Owens might be done with the feud, but McMahon could remain a problem for him.

Kevin Owens made his way down to the ring to start SmackDown. Owens received a huge reaction from the hometown crowd. The fans broke into a loud “Kevin Owens” chant. He noted that yesterday marked the fifth anniversary of signing his WWE contract. He’s made amazing memories over the last five years because he’s been in the ring with the best in the industry. Of course, Shane McMahon isn’t one of those people.

Owens said that beating Shane McMahon at SummerSlam is one of his greatest memories. That’s because his family was sitting ringside and watched him kick McMahon’s ass.

He noted Shane’s ass wasn’t the only thing he kicked. Even though the kick felt great, he’ll never forget hitting the stunner on McMahon.

Owens noted that’s behind him, and he now sets his sight on something else, The King Of The Ring. He’s been a fan his whole life and is happy the tournament is back. He talked about past winners including Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Bret Hart, and Owen Hart. The fans popped big for all the names he mentioned.

Shane McMahon interrupted and walked out onto the ramp. The fans broke into a huge “asshole” chant. He showed footage from SummerSlam to prove Owens is a low life. He showed a still shot of Owens kicking McMahon low. The fans broke into a loud “You Deserve It” chant.

McMahon said Owens is a cheater and not a man.

McMahon threatened Owens and teased walking to the ring. He’s not going to, but Owens is in action later. He showed footage of Owens attacking Elias with a chair at SummerSlam. McMahon gave Elias the night off and suspended the 24/7 title for the night.

McMahon pointed out that Elias was a referee when Owens attacked him. McMahon fined Owens $100,000 for attacking Elias. The fans broke into a brief “boring” chant. Owens was furious that McMahon fined him and said that hurts his family. He asked McMahon to reconsider, but he refused.

They announced The New Day vs. The Revival taking place later.

Kevin Owens walked into Shane McMahon’s office. McMahon promised to suspend Owens if he hit him. McMahon has no choice and has to enforce to fine. Owens was furious and threw a stool at the TV screen.

Charlotte Flair defeated Ember Moon

Flair had the early advantage, but Moon fought back. The fans broke into dual “Let’s Go Charlotte” and “Charlotte Sucks” chants. Flair rolled to the floor and taunted the fans. Moon attempted a dive, but Flair caught her with a forearm. Moon knocked Flair off the apron and hit a cross body to the floor.

Flair recovered and threw Moon back first into the apron. Back from the break, Flair was firmly in control. She attacked the leg and tried for the figure four leg lock but Moon fought back. Instead, Flair applied the Boston crab. The fans broke into a slight “Y2J” chant.

Moon fought back on one leg. She caught Flair with a boot for a near fall. Moon then hit a codebreaker off the bottom rope for a near fall. She climbed to the top, but Flair grabbed her by the hair and pulled her off. Flair missed a charge in the corner and Moon rolled her up for a two count. Flair hit a big boot and locked on the Figure Eight for the win.  

Backstage, Daniel Bryan and Rowan are on their way to the ring and will address the allegations that Rowan attacked Roman Reigns.

They recapped the Roman Reigns mystery attacker angle.

Daniel Bryan and Rowan walked out onto the ramp. The fans broke into a slight “Daniel Bryan” chant. Bryan said that he and Rowan had nothing to do with either of the attacks. He said that he had nothing to do with it and that Buddy Murphy is a liar.

Bryan noted he doesn’t blame Murphy. He said anyone would lie and cave if Roman Reign had their face pressed against the wall.

Bryan said Murphy gave the wrong name. The fans broke into an “It was you” chant.

Bryan asked if the fans think he did it. The fans popped big and chanted, “Yes.”

Bryan hates to disappoint the fans, but they had nothing to do with the attacks. He promised to prove their innocence by the end of the night.

Sara Schreiber walked into Shane McMahon’s office. She asked about Kevin Owens opponent for later.

Samoa Joe showed up, and McMahon then announced Kevin Owens vs. Samoa Joe.  

Aleister Black cut a promo in the back. He’s looking for his next opponent and said all they have to do is knock.

Roman Reigns defeated Buddy Murphy

Tom Philips pointed out this is Murphy’s first official SmackDown match.

This was a good match. Reigns hit Murphy with a right hand and tossed him across the ring. Murphy quickly recovered and rocked Reigns with a knee for a near fall. They fought around ringside near the announce table. Reigns tossed Murphy onto the announce table. Reigns missed the drive-by, and Murphy shoved him into the steps.

Back from the break, Murphy was firmly in control and applied a chin lock. Reigns fought back and hit a powerbomb for a two count. He rocked Murphy with clotheslines in the corner and followed up with a big boot.

Reigns attempted the Superman Punch, but Murphy avoided. Reigns went shoulder-first into the ring post, and Murphy rolled him up for a two count. Murphy sent Reigns to the floor and followed up with a huge flip dive. Murphy hit a Meteora for a close near fall. He hit a superkick, but Reigns recovered and hit the Superman Punch for a near fall.

Reigns attempted the spear, but Murphy hit a kick, three knees and a brainbuster for a very close near fall. Murphy climbed to the top, but Reigns knocked him off to the floor. Reigns hit the Superman Punch off the steps on the floor. He then hit the spear in the ring for the win.

In the back, Kayla Braxton interviewed The Revival. She wondered why The Revival wants to take on The New Day. They noted they won the 24/7 title last night but said it was an insult to the tag team division. They blamed The New Day for ruining the division.

After the break, Kayla Braxton interviewed The New Day in the back. They said they never ruined the tag team division, but they have ruined other things. Kofi Kingston discussed attacking Randy Orton with a kendo stick. He said he would do it again. He promised to be in Xavier Woods and Big E’s corner for their match with The Revival.

Samoa Joe defeated Kevin Owens  

Before the match, They announced Elias as the special enforcer referee for the match.

Owens had the early advantage, but Elias distracted him, and Joe took over. Back from the break, Joe was firmly in control and slowed the pace down. Owens caught Joe with an elbow and second rope dropkick. He followed up with a senton for a two count.

Joe attempted a superplex, but Owens pushed him off and hit a Swanton bomb for a near fall. Owens tried the stunner, but Joe avoided and locked on the Coquina clutch. Owens fought out and hit a pop up powerbomb, but Elias pulled the referee out of the ring.

Elias got in the ring and got in Owens’ face. Joe then rolled up Owens and Elias made a very fast three count for the win.

Daniel Bryan and Rowan entered the locker room. Bryan demanded everyone get out except for Buddy Murphy. Bryan said he knows why Murphy didn’t tell the truth and told him to tell the truth now. Bryan got in Murphy’s face and demanded he tells everyone he lied.

Rowan attacked Murphy and beat him around the locker room. Rowan held Murphy against the wall, and Bryan told him to admit the truth. Murphy then yelled that he lied. Bryan said he hates liars and Rowan threw Murphy across the room.

Backstage, Roman Reigns was looking for Daniel Bryan and Rowan’s dressing room.

The New Day came down to the ring for their match. Randy Orton came out and said Kofi Kingston can’t beat him now and couldn’t beat him eleven years ago.

Orton said Kingston ran away from a fight in front of his wife and two sons. He said when they grow up, they’re going to ask him why he ran away from the big bad scary man. He said Kingston has to look them in the eye and say that he can’t beat Orton. Orton then challenged New Day to take on Orton and The Revival next.

Randy Orton & The Revival defeated The New Day

Orton teased starting the match but tagged in Scott Dawson. The New Day had the early advantage and used several double team moves. Xavier Woods hit a tilt-a-whirl head scissors and dropkick for a two count. Woods rolled up Dawson, but Dash Wilder attacked Woods’ arm.

The heels took over by isolating Woods on their side of the ring and worked over the arm. Dawson tossed Woods to the floor, and Orton gave him a back suplex on the announce table.

Back from the break, the heels were firmly in control and cut Woods off from his corner. Woods fought back and sent Dawson into the ring post. Big E got hot the tag and caught Wilder with a belly-to-belly suplex. He followed up with a big splash.

Kingston hit a cross body on The Revival and hit the Boom Drop on Wilder. He attempted the Trouble in Paradise, but Orton went for the RKO. Kingston avoided and tagged Woods. Kingston then hit a dive onto Orton on the floor.

Woods fought off against both members of The Revival with one arm. The Revival hit the Shatter Machine on Woods for the win.

After the match, The Revival attacked Woods and Big E until Kingston made the save. He hit the Trouble in Paradise on The Revival, but Orton hit the RKO on Kingston.

The fans chanted “One more time” and Orton hit the RKO on Woods. The fans chanted “One more time” again. The Revival picked up Big E, and Orton hit the RKO again. The fans cheered. Orton then hit the RKO on Kingston again.

Roman Reigns walked into Daniel Bryan and Rowan’s locker room. Bryan demanded Reigns apologize to Rowan.

Bryan pointed out that Reigns apologized to Samoa Joe last week. Bryan revealed they conducted their own investigation and will reveal the real culprit next week.
