WWE SmackDown live results: Roman Reigns & Drew McIntyre face-to-face


The 1200th episode of SmackDown takes place tonight, emanating from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and his next challenger Drew McIntyre will take part in a face-to-face segment tonight. Reigns defending his Undisputed title against McIntyre is official for WWE’s Clash at the Castle pay-per-view, which is being held in Cardiff, Wales on September 3.
Intercontinental Champion Gunther’s challenger for Clash at the Castle will be determined tonight. Ricochet, Madcap Moss, Sheamus, Happy Corbin, and Sami Zayn are facing off in a fatal five-way number one contender’s match.
The first round of WWE’s Women’s Tag Team title tournament will conclude with Natalya & Sonya Deville facing Toxic Attraction’s Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne. Natalya & Deville were originally supposed to face Zoey Stark & Nikkita Lyons, but WWE announced that Stark & Lyons aren’t medically cleared to compete.
Plus, The Viking Raiders will hold a “Viking Funeral” for The New Day.

Michael Cole and Pat McAfee welcomed everyone to the 1200th SmackDown. McAfee mentioned watching Cole and Jim Cornette commentate the first episode in 1999.
Ronda Rousey Segment
This was a really good opening segment. Rousey was over huge with the live crowd.
Suddenly, Ronda Rousey walked out to a huge pop. Cole and McAfee pointed out that she was still suspended. Rousey got in the ring and noted she paid her fine last week. She wants her suspension lifted. The fans broke into a huge “Ronda Rousey” chant. The fans in Montreal love Rousey. She demanded Adam Pearce lift her suspension.
Adam Pearce walked out with security to massive boos. Pearce pointed out he couldn’t just lift her suspension. He added that it’s above his pay grade. He asked her to leave the ring peacefully, but Rousey chose violence.
The guards got in the ring, but Rousey easily beat them up. She locked on an armbar on one of the guards. Pearce then called out two police officers who arrested Rousey. The fans booed.
In the back, the officers placed Rousey in the back of the cop car. The fans erupted in boos again.
As the cop car drove off, an SUV pulled into the arena. The fans popped and broke into a “Roman” chant even before they knew he was in the car. Reigns stepped out to a massive babyface pop.
Later in the night, Cole gave an update on Rousey’s arrest. Pearce didn’t press charges, so the police released Rousey.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament: Toxic Attraction defeated Natalya & Sonya Deville (9:55)
This was a good match. The fans were into it and loved Natalya. She got a good reaction from the Canadian fans. Of course, they pinned her in Canada.
Before the match, Bayley, Iyo Sky, and Dakota Kai walked through the crowd and sat in the front row. They got a good reaction. Bayley heckled Cole, which was hilarious.
They showed a Toxic Attraction video package.
Sonya Deville speared Gigi Dolin for an early near fall. Deville and Dolin screwed up a hurricanrana spot, and the match briefly fell apart.
Jacy Jayne tagged in and rocked Deville with a knee. She then hit a cannonball off the apron. Toxic Attraction worked together and took out Natalya.
Back from the break, Toxic Attraction was firmly in control. Jayne hit another cannonball in the corner for a two-count. Deville fought back, and Natalya got the hot tag. The fans popped big for Natalya’s comeback.
Natalya ran wild and hit a German suplex on Jayne. Natalya went for the sharpshooter, but Jayne broke free. Toxic Attraction took back over. Jayne and Deville fought in front of Bayley, Sky, and Kai. Bayley heckled Deville as Jayne rocked her with a boot to the face.
The finish came when Natalya got the sharpshooter on Dolin, but Jayne made the blind tag and rolled up Natalya for the win.
Toxic Attraction advance to the semi-finals to take on Raquel Rodriguez & Aliyah.

Sami Zayn and Roman Reigns Backstage Segment
This was a great segment between Zayn and Reigns.,
In the back, Sami Zayn walked to Roman Reigns’ locker room. Zayn got a huge pop. The fans erupted in a massive “Sami” chant. Reigns actually wanted to talk to Zayn this time.
Reigns wanted to know how everything was going. Zayn admitted that things have been tense. He noticed that Jey’s been yelling at him a lot lately. Zayn pointed out that he took a claymore kick for Jey last week and didn’t get a thank you text. He called Jey ungrateful but stopped himself.
Reigns agreed with Zayn about Jey, and the fans popped. Jey called Reigns, and Zayn answered his phone. Jey was yelling at Zayn again. Zayn told Reigns that the Usos are having problems at the border and can’t make it tonight, but he’s still there.
Zayn mentioned his match later tonight. Reigns thinks the Intercontinental title will look great in the Bloodline. Before Zayn could leave, Reigns told him to give Kevin Owens a message that he doesn’t owe anyone. Zayn then claimed he wasn’t that close with Owens.
They recapped Intercontinental Champion Gunther beating Shinsuke Nakamura last week.

Maximum Male Models and Hit Row Segment
This was a fun segment.
Back from the break, Max Dupri, Maxine Dupri, and Maximum Male Models were standing in the ring. The fans booed Dupri when he started talking.
Suddenly, Hit Row’s music hit, and they made their way to the ring. Dupri mocked Hit Row. Hit Row heard enough and attacked the heels.
After clearing the ring, Hit Row did an awesome rap about their return. Maxine Dupri came out and danced at one point, but Max dragged her to the back.

Back from the break, Karrion Kross and Scarlett caught a pre-taped promo about Drew McIntyre.
Fatal Five-Way: Sheamus defeated Sami Zayn, Happy Corbin, Madcap Moss, and Ricochet (22:23)
This was an awesome match. Zayn was easily the star and got a massive pop from the hometown fans. The fans gave him an awesome ovation and broke into a gigantic “Sami” chant. Zayn’s reaction felt special, but he didn’t end up winning. At least they didn’t pin him.
Sheamus vs. Gunther in Cardiff will probably be a good match, but the fans would have gone crazy if Zayn won tonight.
The bell rang, and the fans broke into a massive “Ole” chant. Everyone fought around ringside, leaving Zayn and Ricochet in the ring. Ricochet caught Zayn with a hurricanrana, and the fans erupted in boos.
Ricochet set up for a dive, but Corbin hit a choke slam for a near fall.
Back from the break, Corbin slammed Zayn on the announce table to loud boos. Sheamus and Moss fought around ringside. Corbin and Ricochet squared off in the ring.
Ricochet did a backflip off Corbin, but Corbin dropped him with a right hand. Zayn tried getting back in the ring, but Corbin cut him off to massive boos. The fans broke into a loud “Let’s go Sami” and “Ole” chant.
Corbin hit a back suplex on Sheamus for a near fall. Ricochet got back in the ring and ran wild. The fans popped for everything Ricochet did until he caught Zayn with a dropkick.
Ricochet hit a standing shooting star press on Corbin for a very close two-count. Sheamus had a massive bruise on the side of his leg. The fans broke into another loud “Sami” chant. Zayn got in the ring, but Sheamus took him out with the Irish Curse back breaker.
Sheamus took over and gave the then beats of bodhran to Moss, Corbin, and Ricochet to a huge pop. Sheamus turned his attention to Zayn, and the fans erupted in boos.
Zayn recovered and ran wild to a huge reaction. Zayn hit a flip dive onto Corbin and Sheamus to a giant pop. The fans broke into a huge “Sami” chant again. Zayn hit the Michinoku driver on Ricochet for a close two-count.
Zayn went for the helluva kick on Ricochet, but Moss cut him off to boos. Zayn hit the blue thunder bomb on Moss for another near fall. The crowd is electric and loves Zayn.
Zayn climbed to the top rope, but Sheamus cut him off. Sheamus hit white noise off the middle rope. Zayn grabbed his arm and rolled out of the ring. Referees and officials checked on Zayn. In the ring, everyone hit a big move going to the break.
Back from the break, Moss gave Sheamus a fall-away slam off the middle rope. Ricochet hit a moonsault off the middle rope for a near fall. Cole noted Zayn suffered an injury before the break and is out of the match.
Sheamus ran wild and rocked Moss with a knee for a two-count. Sheamus went for the Brogue kick, but Moss countered. Ricochet then hit the recoil on Moss. He followed up with a shooting star press on Sheamus, but Corbin broke up the pin. Ricochet cleared the ring.
Suddenly, Zayn returned to a gigantic pop. Zayn hit the exploder suplex on Ricochet and hit the helluva kick. Zayn had the match won, but Corbin pulled him out of the ring. The fans erupted in boos. Corbin went for the End of Days on Ricochet, but Sheamus hit the Brogue kick for the win.
Sheamus takes on Intercontinental Champion Gunther at Clash at the Castle.

Viking Funeral For New Day
Cole noted they got some disturbing footage from The Viking Raiders earlier today. In the footage, The Raiders hosted a funeral for New Day and set their merchandise on fire.

They recapped Shayna Baszler injuring Liv Morgan’s arm last week.
In the back, Kayla Braxton interviewed Morgan. She’ll do anything it takes to keep the title. Morgan assumes Shotzi will target her arm.
Back from the break, Morgan made her entrance.
In the back, Kayla Braxon interviewed Shotzi. She noted Morgan made a mistake agreeing to this match because of her injury.
SmackDown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan defeated Shotzi (6:05)
Morgan and Shotzi had an okay match. They had a tough time following the fatal five-way.
Shotzi was briefly in control until Morgan hit a middle rope dropkick. Shotzi recovered and hit a draping DDT onto the apron.
Back from the break, Shotzi was firmly in control and hit a tiger suplex for a near fall. Shotzi taunted Morgan. Morgan heard enough and fought back. She followed up with oblivion for the win.
After the match, Shayna Baszler attacked Morgan from behind. She teased breaking Morgan’s arm, but she’s going to wait until Clash at the Castle. Baszler then kicked Morgan in the face to loud boos.

Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre headed to the ring for the face-to-face segment. McIntyre picked up his jacket and found Karrion Kross’ hourglass.
Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre Face-to-Face
This was a good closing segment to a good SmackDown. The fans were on fire all night and created an incredible atmosphere.
Reigns came out without Paul Heyman and The Usos. Cole noted The Usos had problems at the border. They recapped Brock Lesnar giving Paul Heyman the F-5 on the announce table at SummerSlam.
The fans broke into a loud “Roman” chant and briefly chanted, “Ole.”Reigns demanded Montreal acknowledge him and the fans broke into another “Roman” chant.
Reigns responded to McIntyre’s comment from last week about carrying the company and mocking Reigns for not showing up to work. Reigns noted he’s the only face of the company, the only main event, and the only person that carries the WWE on his back. Eventually, Drew McIntyre made his way to the ring.
McIntyre doesn’t think Reigns deserve to be champion. He feels Reigns doesn’t represent the titles properly. He pointed out that Reigns is alone and without the Bloodline.
McIntyre wants to fight in Montreal, and they briefly bralwed. McIntyre went for Claymore on Reigns. Suddenly, Sami Zayn appeared and took the Claymore instead. Reigns went for the spear, but McIntyre hit the Claymore. The fans popped for Zayn and broke into a “Sami” chant as he lay on the mat selling the Claymore.
McIntyre posed with both belts to end another good SmackDown.
