WWE SmackDown live results: More build to Extreme Rules

The build to Extreme Rules continues as SmackDown takes place from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas tonight.

Samoa Joe choked out WWE Champion Kofi Kingston last night on Raw in a six-man tag match. It’s the second week in a row that Joe choked out Kingston with the Coquina Clutch. Kingston is scheduled to appear tonight ahead of their match at Extreme Rules on July 14.

New Day members Big E & Xavier Woods will challenge for Daniel Bryan & Rowan’s SmackDown Tag Team titles at Extreme Rules. WWE sent out an email today announcing that Big E will face Bryan in a singles match tonight.

Last week, Nikki Cross defeated SmackDown Woman’s Champion Bayley in a non-title match to earn a title shot for Alexa Bliss at Extreme Rules. Bayley, Bliss, and Cross are expected to appear tonight as well.

They recapped the Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley angle from last night on Raw. Tom Phillips noted Lashley was released last night and pushed the idea that Strowman might have a ruptured spleen. Lashley is scheduled to address the incident later tonight.

The Kevin Owens Show

Owens talked about Roman Reigns and The Undertaker. He teased that they would be his guests, but it was Drew McIntyre and Shane McMahon. Owens was hilarious reading Undertaker’s name off the cue cards. Under and Taker were on separate cards.

They recapped Undertaker confronting McIntyre and McMahon on Raw. McMahon mocked Undertaker and claimed not to be afraid of him.

The fans broke into an “Undertaker” chant. McMahon’s not afraid because he’s on a hot streak. He announced that the tag team match is now a No Holds Barred match.

Owens wasn’t convinced and showed more footage from last night. Owens believed McMahon looked afraid of Undertaker. McMahon was annoyed with Owens questions. He told Owens to be a good host and read the questions from the cards. Owens read a few questions but then asked about Undertaker beating McMahon at WrestleMania.

McIntyre heard enough and got in Owens’ face. Dolph Ziggler interrupted and came down to the ring. Owens said he doesn’t want to hear Ziggler say it should have been him. The fans cheered Owens. Ziggler and Owens both want a title shot against WWE Champion Kofi Kingston.

McMahon instead is giving them an opportunity for the SmackDown tag team titles. The tag title match at Extreme Rules is now a triple threat. Owens and Ziggler take on Heavy Machinery with the winning team added to the match. Owens and Ziggler had a brief stare down. Owens came across like a babyface in the segment.

In the back, SmackDown tag team champions Daniel Bryan & Rowan were unhappy to hear their Extreme Rules match is now a triple threat.

Before the match, Big E and Xavier Woods said they’re okay with the Extreme Rules match being a triple threat.

Bryan tried using shoulder tackles, but Big E didn’t move. Big E rocked Bryan with a hard clothesline. Bryan rolled to the floor.

During the commercial, Bryan walked around ringside for a bit before finally entering. Bryan kicked Big E in the stomach to gain control. He rocked Big E with kicks in the corner. Big E briefly took over, but Bryan used a chop block on Big E’s knee.

Back from break, Bryan was firmly in control working over the knee. Big E fought back and hit a belly-to-belly suplex. He followed up with a second, but Bryan avoided a third.

Bryan rocked Big E with kicks, but Big E hit a belly-to-belly suplex for a close near fall.

Big E attempted the spear through the ropes, but Bryan avoided the move. Bryan attempted a suicide dive, but Big E caught him with a forearm.

Rowan pushed Big E into the ring post. Woods tried to help, but Rowan took him out. Bryan then hit the running knee for the win.

Kayla Braxton interviewed R-Truth. They recapped Drake Maverick defeating R-Truth for the 24/7 championship. Truth said he heard that Hornswoggle (Maverick) is in San Antonio and he’s looking for him.

In the back, Alexa Bliss decided to let Nikki Cross host tonight’s edition of A Moment of Bliss.

That’s two talk shows hosted by wrestlers in the first hour of the show. Cross thanked Bliss and loves her. Cross pointed out she has an accent. She’s going to talk slow so she can be the best host possible. She then introduced her guest SmackDown Woman’s Champion Bayley.

Bayley’s impressed that Bliss is giving Cross the spotlight tonight. Bayley told her not to do Bliss’ bidding. Cross isn’t doing her bidding and is out to host the show. Cross wanted to know why she called Bliss a liar.

Bayley noted that’s because she’s a liar. Cross didn’t like that. Bayley pointed out that Cross beat her last week. She wondered why Bliss is getting the title shot and not Cross.

Cross became angry and challenged Bayley to a match right now.

SmackDown Woman’s Champion Bayley defeated Nikki Cross

Bayley was firmly in control and hit Cross with an elbow in the corner. Cross fought back and sent Bayley to the floor. She followed up with a cross body in the ring for a close near fall. Cross attempted a tornado DDT, but Bayley pushed her off. She then hit the Bayley-to-Belly suplex for the win.

In the back, WWE Champion Kofi Kingston’s on his way to the ring for his face-to-face with Samoa Joe.

On the street, Ali said he’s chasing the WWE Championship because he wants to force change. He doesn’t care about money and fame. He promised to one day be WWE Champion and change your mind. Ali’s chase continues, and the change begins. Ali’s good at these types of promos.

In the ring, Kayla Braxton introduced WWE Champion Kofi Kingston. They recapped Samoa Joe choking out Kingston two weeks in a row on Raw. Braxton then introduced Joe. Joe told Braxton to get out of the ring to avoid any collateral damage. Joe pointed out that Kingston needs The New Day. He said Kingston uses the fans just like him.

Kingston noted he defeated Bryan at WrestleMania on his own. He said Joe’s changed and now he’s hiding. Kingston pointed out Joe’s ass is too big to play hide and seek. Joe talked about Kingston’s family. Kingston said he’s not surprised that Joe’s mentioning his family. He called him Jealous Joe.

Kingston said Joe wouldn’t have a moment with his kids at WrestleMania as Kingston did. Joe promised not to attack Kingston’s friends or family if Kingston would shake his hand. Kingston teased shaking his hand but flipped him off instead and hit the trouble in paradise. 

In the back, Heavy Machinery promised to defeat Dolph Ziggler and Kevin Owens and then go on to Extreme Rules.

They recapped the Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley angle from last night again. They again teased Strowman having a ruptured spleen but said it’s not confirmed.

They showed a video Bobby Lashley posted to Twitter. He said Strowman deserves everything that happened to him. He promised to put him in a morgue if they cross paths again.

Andrade (w/Zelina Vega) defeated Apollo Crews

Vega grabbed Crews leg to give Andrade the advantage. Andrade hit the double knees in the corner for a near fall. Crews sent Andrade to the floor and hit a moonsault off the apron.

Back from the break, Andrade missed the double knees in the corner and Crews took over. Crews hit the press slam into the standing moonsault for a two count. Andrade fought back and rocked Crews with a back elbow.

Andrade attempted a plancha to the floor, but Crews caught him and dropped him on the apron. Crews threw Andrade back in the ring.

Vega hit a hurricanrana off the apron and sent Crews into the announce table. Andrade then hit the hammerlock DDT for the win.

Kevin Owens approached Dolph Ziggler in the locker room. Owens noted they hadn’t done a great job since returning. Owens said they should give it a try and they could win the tag titles.

In the back, Ember Moon’s on her way to the ring. Carmella wished her good luck.

Backstage, Aleister Black revealed that last week there was a knock on his door, but nobody was there. He applauded the mind games. He challenged the person to face him at Extreme Rules.

Ember Moon defeated Mandy Rose (w/Sonya Deville)

Rose had the early advantage and hit a knee for a close near fall. Moon fought back and hit a code breaker off the second turnbuckle. Moon then hit the Eclipse for the win.  

In the back, an interviewer asked Shelton Benjamin who he thinks is going to win the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules. Benjamin looked around, smiled, and then walked off.

Heavy Machinery defeated Kevin Owens & Dolph Ziggler To Earn A Spot In the Tag Title Match At Extreme Rules 

SmackDown tag team champions Daniel Bryan & Rowan and New Day joined in on commentary. Xavier Woods and Big E have their own announce table. Bryan said that New Day turned the tag team division into a joke. He continued to insult New Day throughout the match.

Otis and Ziggler did some mat wrestling early. Owens pulled Ziggler out of the ring. Suddenly, Woods jumped over the announce table and attacked Bryan because he heard enough. New Day and Bryan & Rowan brawled on the floor. Bryan rocked Big E with the running knee, and Rowan gave Woods the Iron Claw onto the announce table.

Back from the break, the match restarts with both Bryan & Rowan and New Day kicked out from ringside. Tucker hit a standing dropkick on Owens for a two count. Ziggler and Owens hit a neck breaker/Senton combo for a near fall.

Ziggler slowed the pace down with a front face lock. Tucker fought back and hit a crossbody off the second turnbuckle.

Otis got the hot tag and ran wild. Ziggler recovered and hit a big DDT. Owens got the tag and hit a superkick, but Otis sent him to the floor.

Otis hit a splash and Caterpillar on Ziggler. Owens attempted a stunner on Otis, but he avoided. Ziggler attempted a superkick, but Otis ducked, and he hit Owens instead. Tucker sent Ziggler to the floor. Heavy Machinery then hit the compactor on Owens for the win. Heavy Machinery’s added to the tag title match at Extreme Rules.

After the match, Owens hit the stunner on Ziggler. He turned to the camera and yelled that this is his show.
