WWE SmackDown live results: Goldberg returns

The build to Super ShowDown continues as SmackDown takes place from the SAP Center in San Jose tonight.

Ahead of the February 27 show in Saudi Arabia, Goldberg returns to SmackDown. He last appeared at SummerSlam when he easily defeated Dolph Ziggler. WWE is hyping that Goldberg will reveal what — and who — is next for him.

Bray Wyatt and The Firefly Funhouse return tonight. As The Fiend, Wyatt defeated Daniel Bryan in a brutal strap match at the Royal Rumble. WWE is teasing that Wyatt might go after Bryan or a new target.

Naomi, Alexa Bliss, Carmella, and Dana Brooke compete in a fatal four-way number one contender’s match. The winner receives a future title shot against SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley.

Plus, The Dirt Sheet returns with hosts The Miz and John Morrison. Miz & Morrison challenging for The New Day’s SmackDown Tag Team titles has been confirmed for Super ShowDown.

The Miz and John Morrison made their way to the ring to host The Dirt Sheet. Morrison came out wearing a blazer but no shirt. 

They showed the trailer for their new movie, Once Upon A Time In The Dirt Sheet. The trailer was a parody of Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. 

The parody was excellent and included appearances by Mr. Miz, Lance Storm, and John Laurinaitis. 

Miz and Morrison promised to win the SmackDown tag team titles at Super Showdown. The New Day interrupted and made their way down to the ring. They had popcorn and mocked the trailer. 

Kofi Kingston pointed out that he’s Mr. Miz’s favorite wrestler, and that’s a shoot. New Day promised to retain the titles in Saudi Arabia.

Morrison and Miz bragged about being the best tag team and earning the title shot. 

The Usos interrupted and made their way down to the ring. They pointed out that Morrison and Miz never beat them. 

Suddenly, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode interrupted. Morrison and Miz jumped The New Day in the ring. 

The Usos defeated Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode

The Usos had the early advantage until Ziggler caused a distraction. Roode rocked Jey with a clothesline to take over. The heels isolated Jey in their corner and cut him off from Jimmy.

Roode slowed the pace down with a chin lock. The heels hit a ZIg-Zag/ spine buster combo for a near fall. 

Jimmy made the save and nailed Ziggler with a superkick. 

Jey made a brief comeback and climbed to the top turnbuckle. Ziggler distracted the referee, and Roode shoved Jey to the floor. 

Back from the break, the heels were firmly in control. Jimmy got the hot tag and ran wild. 

Roode caught Jimmy with a power slam for a two count. Roode attempted the Glorious DDT, but Jimmy backdropped Roode.

Ziggler got the tag and hit the Zig-Zag for a very close near fall. Ziggler set up for the superkick, but Jimmy hit the superkick first. Jimmy knocked Roode off the apron and tagged Jey.

Jey hit the splash off the top, but Ziggler got his knees up and cradled him for a near fall.

Jimmy made the blind tag and sent Ziggler to the floor. The Usos hit a double superkick on Roode. Jimmy then hit the splash for the win in a fun match.

In the locker room, Nikki Cross approached Alexa Bliss. Bliss was confident she could beat Bayley, which she did in San Jose before. She promised to win the fatal-four way later tonight 

They recapped Roman Reigns and The Usos covering King Corbin in dog food. 

Michael Cole and Corey Graves discussed how embarrassed Corbin must be. 

Corbin charged into the production truck and demanded to know who showed the video. He pulled out one of the employees and pushed him down a flight of stairs. 

Adam Pearce and a bunch of officials admonished Corbin for his actions. 

In the ring, Elias played his guitar. It was excellent. He noted he fights Cesaro next and wonders who has his back. 

He wrote a song for the fans, “Third Time’s A Charm”. Of course, Cesaro and Sami Zayn interrupted. 

Zayn was upset that Elias interrupted him last week and wants Elias to know what it feels like to be interrupted.

Elias pointed out that for the last two years, it would be a miracle if he can get through a song.

Zayn noted they were going through a crisis after Shinsuke Nakamura lost the Intercontinental title, and Elias interrupted. 

Elias defeated Cesaro (w/ Sami Zayn)

Elias had the early advantage until Zayn jumped on the apron. Cesaro took advantage and rammed Elias into the ring post. 

Cesaro knocked Elias off the apron with a big boot. He applied a chin lock to slow the pace down. 

Cesaro chocked Elias on the middle rope until the referee pulled him off. Zayn punched Elias behind the referee’s back.

Cesaro went back to the chin lock, but Elias fought out. Elias hit a back suplex and jumping knee for a near fall.

Elias climbed to the top, but Cesaro hit the ropes to knock him down. They fought on the top, but Elias pushed off Cesaro. 

Cesaro leaped to his feet and hit an impressive uppercut. Cesaro then hit a superplex from the apron for a close near fall. 

They traded pinfall attempts. Cesaro lifted Elias in the air and rocked him with an uppercut for a two count. 

Cesaro hit a series of vicious-looking uppercuts. Elias fought back and hit a big clothesline. 

Elias then hit the elbow off the top for the win. 

They showed Goldberg getting ready for his upcoming interview. 

Michael Cole pushed the start of the XFL season and the two games that start tomorrow. 

Cole and Corey Graves turned their attention to Goldberg until King Corbin interrupted. 

Corbin demanded the fans bow down and listen. He was furious that he was embarrassed last week. Corbin pointed out that Roman Reigns needed The Usos to help him.

Corbin noted if Reigns is as tough as he claims he is, then he would have fought Corbin one-on-one at the Royal Rumble. Corbin is sure he would have won the Rumble.

Corbin demanded one more match with Reigns. He wants to face Reigns right now. 

Corbin got in a fan’s face that was celebrating Corbin covered in dog food. He took another fan’s beer and poured it on the other fan.

Reigns music hit, and he ran down to attack Corbin. They fought around ringside with Reigns hitting the drive-by. Corbin ran off in the crowd and left.

Reigns grabbed the mic and called Corbin a coward. He agreed to face Corbin in a one-on-one match and challenged Corbin to a steel cage match.

Goldberg joined live via satellite and wasn’t in the arena. 

Goldberg noted he watched The Royal Rumble and was very impressive. He said WWE Champion Brock Lesnar is busy with Ricochet and Drew McIntyre. 

He turned his attention to Universal Champion Bray Wyatt.

Goldberg was about to challenge for the Universal title when the Firefly Funhouse suddenly interrupted with breaking news. 

Wyatt pretended to be a news anchor and agreed to the title match at Super Showdown. He then tried to interview Goldberg.

Goldberg doesn’t care about the mind games and told Wyatt’s he’s next. Goldberg then walked off. 

In the locker room, Daniel Bryan watched the monitor and seemed concerned. Side note, he was watching the monitor like a normal person and not standing sideways. 

Health Slater approached Bryan and wouldn’t stop talking about Bryan’s situation with Wyatt. He thought it was a mistake that Bryan agreed to the strap match.

Bryan seemed annoyed and challenged Slater to a match right now. Slater was shocked and concerned. 

This week in WWE History featured the memorable match between WWE Champion Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant from NBC’s The Main Event on February 5, 1988. 

They recapped the Bray Wyatt vs. Daniel Bryan strap match from the Royal Rumble. 

Daniel Bryan defeated Heath Slater

Bryan completely dominated the match. He rocked Slater with a dropkick right at the ring of the bell. Bryan followed up with a suicide dive and missile dropkick. 

Bryan rocked Slater with the Yes Kicks. He then hit the running knee. Bryan didn’t go for the win and instead hit a series of stomps. 

Bryan then applied the Yes Lock for the win. 

They recapped Braun Strowman winning the Intercontinental title last week.

Renee Young interviewed new champion Braun Strowman in the ring. The fans gave Strowman a good reaction, and there was a slight “You deserve it’ chant.

Strowman said winning the title is his greatest accomplishment. He talked about winning the Greatest Royal Rumble, flipping ambulances, and winning the tag team titles with an eight-year-old. 

Now is the first time that he can hold a singles title over his head. 

Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura interrupted. Zayn demanded a rematch for Nakamura, and Strowman agreed to a match right now. 

Zayn agreed but not to a match right now. They’re smarter than Strowman and think things through.

Suddenly, The Revival jumped Strowman from behind. Nakamura set up for the Kinshasa, but Strowman rocked him with a right hand. 

Strowman fought off the heels and chased Zayn around ringside. Nakamura caught Strowman with a knee and then hit the Kinshasa. 

They showed former UFC Champion Daniel Cormier sitting front row. 

In the back, Otis is getting ready for his date with Mandy Rose on Valentine’s Day. They showed a video of Otis working out and trying on different outfits. 

Tucker also tried to teach Otis how to eat a steak with a fork. He stood up and knocked over the table. 

Sheamus defeated Apollo Crews 

Sheamus attacked Crews to start the match. Crews made a brief comeback but missed a splash in the corner. Sheamus then hit the Brogue Kick for the quick win. 

After the match, Sheamus teased a second Brogue Kick, but Shorty G ran out for the save. Sheamus recovered and hit the Brogue Kick on Shorty G. 

Fatal Four Way Number One Contender’s Match: Carmella defeated Naomi, Alexa Bliss, and Dana Brooke 

SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley was at ringside for the match. 

All four went for pin attempts early. Brooke hit a somersault elbow in the corner, but Bliss knocked her to the floor. 

Naomi recovered and hit a plancha to the floor, wiping out all three competitors. 

Bayley posed over the four of them, and the fans popped big. They broke into a loud “Bayley” chant. Naomi got in her face, and the fans booed her. 

Naomi pushed Bayley, and the fans were furious. Bayley jumped to her feet and attacked Naomi. The fans popped as Bayley sent Naomi into the ring steps.

Back from the break, Naomi caught Carmella with a kick and a springboard crossbody onto Brooke and Bliss.

Naomi rocked Brooke with a kick, but Bliss made the save. Brooke hit a powerbomb on Bliss for very close two count, but Carmella broke up the pin attempt. 

Naomi hit a bulldog into the middle corner on Carmella and followed up with a split-legged moonsault for a near fall.

Naomi used an inside cradle on Bliss for another near fall. 

Naomi sent Bliss into Carmella and hit a split-legged splash on Brooke for a two count. Bliss sent Naomi into the turnbuckle and attempted Twisted Bliss, but Naomi got her knees up.

The finish came when Naomi hit the Rear View on Bliss, but Carmella hit a superkick on Naomi for the win. Carmella in the number one contender for Bayley’s title. 

After the match, Bayley jumped Carmella from behind.
