WWE SmackDown live results: Final build to Elimination Chamber

  • Dave Bath

The final build to Elimination Chamber takes place on tonight’s SmackDown.

Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan & Cesaro take on Jey Uso, King Corbin & Sami Zayn in a six-man tag match tonight. All six wrestlers are competing in SmackDown’s Elimination Chamber match Sunday at the pay-per-view.

Initially, Adam Pearce announced that Universal Champion Roman Reigns would defend in the Chamber. Reigns refused, and Paul Heyman stated the Chamber winner will instead receive a title shot against Reigns that same night.

An appearance by men’s Royal Rumble winner Edge will kick off tonight’s show. Reigns tweeted that whatever Edge has to say, he can say to Reigns’ face.

Women’s Royal Rumble winner Bianca Belair also still hasn’t picked her WrestleMania 37 opponent. Belair and SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks had a friendly encounter last week. Banks praised Belair and felt Belair should pick her. Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler interrupted before Belair could respond. The faces mocked Jax and worked together to beat down the heels.

Jax & Baszler will be Bayley’s guests on “Ding Dong, Hello!” tonight. Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The men’s Royal Rumble winner Edge made his way to the ring. He wasted no time and got right to the point. Edge talked about the Elimination Chamber and the choices he needs to make. Edge compared the WWE Champion Drew McIntrye and Universal Champion Roman Reigns. He thinks Reigns is making the right play by not defending the title in the Chamber.

Edge noted after Elimination Chamber, he has to make the biggest choice of his career. Universal Champion Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, and Paul Heyman interrupted. The heels made Edge wait and took their time walking to the ring.

Reigns pointed out that he’s the main event. Edge heard Reigns talking about him being afraid last week. Edge isn’t scared of him. He played Reigns like a fiddle. He said that Reigns needs Edge to be in the main event.

Edge noted he’s not focusing on Reigns right now. He asked Reigns if he’s sure that’s what he wants.

Sami Zayn interrupted with his documentary crew. He ranted about WWE management conspiring against him. Zayn was furious that Reigns and Edge aren’t taking him seriously. He told the camera crew to get a good shot of him pointing at the WrestleMania sign. He continued to rant until Uso suddenly hit him with a superkick.

Reigns and Edge just kept staring at each other. Reigns handed the belt to Heyman. He walked over to Edge and said something in his ear, and walked off.

Edge and Reigns were great in the opening segment, although they treated Zayn like a joke.

Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Apollo Crews

Nakamura and Crews had a fine match, but the focus was more on the angle after it was over.

Intercontinental Champion Big E joined Michael Cole and Corey Graves on commentary. Big E sat on a couch and enjoyed some food.

They recapped Crews interfering in Big E and Nakamura’s match. In the back, Kayla Braxton interviewed Crews before he entered. He felt Big E disrespected him last week when he told him to go back to catering. Crews noted his ancestors are Nigerian Royalty. Big E would have lost his tongue if he talked to them like that.

On commentary, Big E noted he’s not giving Crews another title shot because he beat him. Big E wants to move on to someone like Nakamura.

Nakamura had the early advantage and hit a knee drop for a near fall. Crews took over when he threw Nakamura into Big E at ringside.

Back from the break, Nakamura fought back and hit a sliding German suplex for a near fall. Crews fired back and hit a spine buster for a near fall. He followed up with an enziguri. The finish came when Nakamura applied an armbar and rolled up Crews for the win.

Crews jumped Nakamura and beat him down around ringside. Crews grabbed the steps, but Big E got in his face. Big E demanded Crews put the steps down. Crews listened and started to walk away.

Big E checked on Nakamura. Crews grabbed the steps again and hit Big E in the back so hard they both went flying. He knocked Nakamura over the barricade and mocked Big E.

Crews grabbed the steps and tossed them in the ring, which was impressive. He threw Big E in the ring and held the steps above his head. The referee got in Crews face and pleaded with him to put them down.

At the same time, Big E rolled to the floor on the opposite side of the hard cam. Crews then dropped the steps from inside the ring to the floor right onto Big E, although the camera never showed it.

They showed Big E on the floor in pain. They sold this huge with referees running out to check on Big E. Graves even stood up from his seat to check on Big E.

Back from the break, the medical staff took Big E out on a stretcher.

Seth Rollins walked out onto the ramp. He said what just happened to Big E is a tragedy. Rollins noted it’s a tragedy when a friend betrays another friend. He said that’s what happened to him last week when the roster walked out on him.

They recapped his return last week and attacking Cesaro’s knee.

Rollins said it was a traumatic moment for him. He sent a legal letter to the WWE because the roster ruined his return last week.

Rollins noted they’re not his friends but a bunch of losers. The biggest loser out of all of them is Cesaro. He continued to rant before saying goodnight.

In the back, Edge approached Kevin Owens. Edge praised Owens and noted they’re similar. All Owens can think about is winning the Chamber and the title from Reigns. Edge wished him luck and said it would be nice to face him at WrestleMania. Owens agreed.

Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville helped the medical staff take Big E to the ambulance.

Tamina & Natalya defeated The Riott Squad

This was fine but was sloppy at times.

Morgan tried to do the Matrix, but Tamina just picked her up. Mogan fought back and attempted a move off the second rope, but Tamina avoided it.

Natalya beat down Morgan in the corner, but the faces fought back.

Billie Kay came to ringside wearing a Tamina t-shirt and cat ears. She distracted Morgan and Tamina scored the win.

Kay tried to celebrate with Tamina and Natalya after the match. Tamina rocked Kay with a superkick and walked off.

They showed footage of Sasha Banks at The Daytona 500.

In the back, King Corbin approached Edge. Corbin bragged about his clothes and watch.

He thinks they’d make a great WrestleMania main event. Edge mocked Corbin.

Ding Dong Hello

This was a typical segment where nobody finishes a sentence, and everyone interrupts each other. This segment felt like it went forever.

Bayley jumped through the door and knocked over her plant.

She wasted no time and introduced her guests, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax. They both tried entering the door at the same time.

Jax apologized to Bayley for taking the tag titles from her. Bayley thanked them because she got away from Sasha Banks.

They mocked Banks and Bianca Belair.

Reginald interrupted and made his way to the ring. He defended Banks and noted they couldn’t beat her.

Sasha Banks interrupted and made her way to the ring. Bayley yelled at her to use the door, but Banks ignored her. She told Reginald not to speak for her.

Jax demanded a referee come out.

Sasha Banks, Bianca Belair & Reginald defeated Nia Jax, Shayna Baszler & Bayley

This was a fine match.

On commentary, Cole pushed the idea that Reginald has a crush on Banks.

The faces had the early advantage. Reginald did a flip in the ring for some reason. Jax attacked Banks from behind, and the heels took over. Bayley competed in her street clothes without shoes.

The heels isolated Banks on their side of the ring and cut her off from her corner. Bayley slid under the bottom rope and yanked Belair off the apron.

Reginald got the tag and went face to face with Jax. He charged at Jax, but she knocked him down with a shoulder tackle.

They treated this as a massive win for Reginald and a major shock.

In the back, Kayla Braxton interviewed Cesaro. He noted they were hoping Seth Rollins would be a different person, but he’s the same. He promised to win the Chamber match Sunday.

Edge approached Cesaro and praised him. Cesaro told Edge that he’d see him in the main event at WrestleMania.

Rey & Dominik Mysterio vs. Chad Gable & Otis

This wasn’t good and had a lame finish.

SmackDown Tag Team Champions Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode joined on commentary. They mocked The Street Profits by drinking out of solo cups.

Dominik and Gable went back and forth early. Otis took over and dominated the Mysterio’s. Rey attempted a springboard crossbody, but Otis caught him and slammed him down. Otis then rocked Dominik and hit a splash on Rey.

Suddenly, the referee called for the bell and disqualified Otis and Gable. Ziggler and Roode were even confused with the finish.

Otis then hit a splash off the second rope onto Rey. It appeared that Gable and Otis turned heel.

In the back, Edge approached Daniel Bryan. Edge thanked Bryan for working so hard to get his career back. Bryan made a deal with Edge that if he wins the title, Edge picks him for WrestleMania.

Back from the break, Dominik helped a severely injured Rey to the back.

Kevin Owens approached Daniel Bryan and Cesaro in the back. Owens wondered if they’re talking about strategy. Bryan and Cesaro are preparing for Owens hitting them with stunners during the match.

They mocked Owens for always turning on his partners. They named a few, including Kofi Kingston and Sami Zayn. Bryan noted there’s a big name he’s forgetting and wishes he had a list. That was a funny line.

Owens promised them they have nothing to worry about tonight, but on Sunday, they do.

In the back, Reginald gave Carmella a glass of champagne. Carmella wondered why it took Reginald so long to get the champagne. He tried to lie, but she saw him out in the ring. She didn’t like the champagne and yelled at him.

They announced WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax & Shayna Blaszler against Sasha Banks & Bianca Belair at Elimination Chamber.

Daniel Bryan, Kevin Owens & Cesaro defeated Jey Uso, King Corbin & Sami Zayn

This was a good six-man tag team match.

Edge joined Michael Cole and Corey Graves on commentary.

Uso had the early advantage and backed Bryan into the corner. Bryan fought back, and the faces briefly took over. Corbin teased getting in the ring with Cesaro but tagged out to Zayn.

The heels regained control and isolated Bryan on their side of the ring.

The heels argued with each other. Cesaro got the hot tag and ran wild on Zayn. He rocked Zayn with a series of uppercuts in the corner.

The heels continued to argue at ringside. Uso and Corbin threw Zayn into the ring. Cesaro grabbed Zayn in the giant swing and then sent him into his corner. Corbin tagged in, but Cesaro got him in the giant swing as well. Cesaro struggled to get Corbin up but eventually did.

Back from the break, Cesaro had Corbin back in the giant swing. Uso dragged Cesaro to the floor and tossed him over the announce desk.
