WWE SmackDown live results: Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss

The Big Takeaway —

Shane McMahon will replace an “injured” Baron Corbin on Team SmackDown at Survivor Series. Corbin hurt himself while beating up Kalisto, and proceeded to get beat up by Kalisto. Speaking of Kalisto, he will face Brian Kendrick for the Cruiserweight Championship at Survivor Series. If he wins, the Cruiserweight title and the entire division will move to SmackDown.

Also, Becky Lynch successfully defending her title against Alexa Bliss. However, the feud will continue, as Bliss’ foot was on the bottom rope as she tapped out, but the referee missed it.

Finally, next week is the 900th episode of SmackDown and it will feature the return of the Undertaker, as well as Edge for a Cutting Edge segment. Dolph Ziggler will also defend the Intercontinental title against Miz.

Show Recap — 

Mauro Ranallo kicked off by announcing Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss for the title in tonight’s main event. Ranallo is being joined on commentary by JBL, David Otunga and now Tom Phillips. The announce table looks crowded to say the least. This is a permanent change according to the website. Phillips recapped what happened in last week’s main event and pushed AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose at TLC.

Styles is out to a big reaction to start the show. Styles was in no mood for their cheering, so the crowd  booed. Styles was pissed about losing last week after Ambrose cheated. He called James Ellsworth a mutant and said he would beat the ugly off him and Ambrose if they were both here. However, Ellsworth wasn’t here because they didn’t bother flying him out.

Styles was told he can’t lay a hand on Ambrose because they’re on the same team, and admitted he does want to beat Raw. He called himself team captain and wanted to get his team together. Before he could finish, Baron Corbin came out and said nothing interesting.

The Wyatt Family, including Randy Orton, complied and came out next. Before they could do anything, Dean Ambrose came out. He stormed to the ring, then went back to the stage to bring out James Ellsworth. JBL wondered how “it” got through customs. Crowd chanted for Ellsworth.

Ambrose told Styles to calm down, Ellsworth was just his guest. Ambrose said Styles could fight him if he had a problem with Ellsworth. Styles looked around and said Ambrose was outnumbered, when Baron Corbin abruptly left the ring.

This brought out Shane McMahon to a big pop. Shane said if they wanted to prove they were the best and beat Raw, they had to be on the same side. Ellsworth offered to be the official mascot of Team SmackDown and Shane accepted. Shane also announced a six-man tag match tonight with Bray, Luke Harper and Randy Orton against Dean Ambrose, Baron Corbin and James Ellsworth.

Backstage, Shane caught up to Corbin, who wasn’t interested in being in tonight’s match. Corbin told Shane he could just kick him off the team. Shane took him out of the 6-man, but put him in a singles match against the returning Kalisto.

Breezango defeated The Vaudevillains

Fandango got the win in about a minute after a Falcon Arrow. They are the final team on Team SmackDown.

They announced next week’s 900th episode of SmackDown will feature the return of Edge for the Cutting Edge, as well as the return of the Undertaker.

Naomi defeated Natalya

Nikki Bella was on commentary. Quickly into the match, Carmella marched to ringside and Nikki got up to confront her, but Natalya went out to separate them. Nikki decked Carmella anyway and Natalya scrambled back into the ring just before she could get counted out, but Naomi caught her in a small package for the quick win.

Backstage, Ellsworth said he and Ambrose could be referred to as “James Dean” and they each have two hands. “I mean, together Dean, we have four hands.” Ambrose didn’t want to hear anymore, when Daniel Bryan showed up to a huge ovation. Ambrose told him tonight would be a 3-on-1.5 handicap match. Bryan had a new partner for them, and it was Kane. Kane suddenly appeared without them noticing and told Ellsworth not to tag in.

Baron Corbin vs. Kalisto

The match never happened. Corbin attacked Kalisto as he entered the ring. Corbin was about to attack him some more outside the ring, but “slipped” on the apron. He told the referee he popped his knee and wanted help, but Kalisto ran in and dropkicked Corbin leg first into the steps. The referee tried to stop him, but Kalisto followed with a frog splash to Corbin’s leg.

They aired a video package for tonight’s Women’s title match.

Backstage, Shane stood in front of a whiteboard with the members of Team Raw and Team SmackDown listed. Bryan entered and informed Shane that Corbin wouldn’t be able to make Survivor Series, so he was crossed off the board. Shane gave Bryan a list of SmackDown wrestlers and told him to pick one, because he wanted to watch tonight’s main event. Which is right now, apparently.

SmackDown Women’s Championship: Becky Lynch defeated Alexa Bliss

Fortunately, they did not go to commercial a minute into the match. Instead, they took a break between their entrances, which is better. Ranallo kept telling us this was the main event, even though there’s an hour left in the show.

They went back and forth early on, but Bliss launched Lynch shoulder first into the post and worked over her arm from there. Lynch fought out of a submission hold by deadlifting Bliss off the mat into a sitout powerbomb, but was in too much pain to make a cover.

After a break, Lynch made a one-armed comeback, hitting clotheslines, a leg lariat, corner forearm and exploder for two. Lynch missed a diving legdrop and Bliss followed with Insult to Injury (her double knee drop). They exchanged strikes leading to Bliss getting a rollup for two. She went to the top and tried a tornado DDT, but they mistimed it. Bliss ended up hitting a regular DDT anyway for two.

They traded rollups leading to Lynch applying the Disarmer. Bliss’ foot was on the bottom rope, but the referee didn’t see it, so she tapped out. Lynch retains. Match was about 15 minutes. The announcers argued about the referee’s decision afterwards.

Backstage, Shane was already with Bryan telling him that the referee’s decision was final. I thought he left to watch the match? Shane asked if Bryan would accompany him to Raw. Bryan said he had one word for that… “Definitely.” Maryse and Miz interrupted. Maryse said Miz was too pissed to speak and wanted to know why he couldn’t face Dolph Ziggler for the IC Title at Survivor Series.

Bryan explained he wanted a fighting champion and the whole point of Survivor Series was Raw vs. SmackDown. Bryan also said that in exchange for Ziggler defending his IC title against Raw’s Sami Zayn, The Brian Kendrick would defend his Cruiserweight title against Kalisto. The big stipulation was that if Kalisto won, the title and the entire division was coming to SmackDown.

Maryse noted that if Ziggler lost, Miz wouldn’t get his rematch. Bryan offered Miz his title rematch on next week’s SmackDown, “take it or leave it.” Maryse accepted on Miz’ behalf, which he seemed displeased with.

Curt Hawkins defeated Apollo Crews

Hawkins won in two minutes with a rollup. They called it an upset. It was definitely upsetting.

Backstage, Ziggler told Renee Young he was excited to defend his title next week and at Survivor Series. He called Zayn a paperboy.

6-Man Tag Match: Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton & Luke Harper defeated Kane, Dean Ambrose & James Ellsworth

AJ Styles has replaced Tom Phillips on commentary. (Actually, I’m not really sure when Phillips left.) Otunga asked Styles what makes him the team captain, and Styles pointed out the giant gold belt on his shoulder. Later, Otunga asked if he could beat Kevin Owens, and Styles made a crack about Owens holding the Women’s title belt.

Kane refused to tag Ellsworth at one point which led to the Wyatts taking control. The crowd chanted “We want Ellsworth” and he couldn’t help but smile. This continued after a break.

Ambrose made a hot tag, but the crowd wasn’t into it because they wanted Ellsworth. He ran wild, hitting Bray and Harper with a bulldog/clothesline combo. He nailed Orton with a pescado, and followed with a suicide dive to both Orton and Bray. Ambrose then countered a Sister Abigail but ate a big boot from Harper. Kane attacked Harper and they brawled up the ramp.

Ambrose went for the rebound clothesline, but he and Bray collided with double clotheslines. Ambrose was groggy, hanging over the bottom rope. Ellsworth hesitated, wondering if he should tag himself in as the crowd chanted “Yes.” He made the tag to a big pop, tuned up the band, went for No Chin Music, but Bray caught him and hit Sister Abigail for the win. The match wasn’t much thanks to Kane being in most of it. The ending was good.

Afterwards, Bray, Orton and Styles surrounded Ambrose as he protected Ellsworth. Shane ran down to break things up. This brought out Daniel Bryan to a huge pop.

Bryan had the clipboard in his hand and said he could pick anyone on the list to join Team Smackdown. His name was on the list, but unfortunately, he can’t wrestle. The crowd booed. Bryan noted that Shane was also on the list and asked of he would be the fifth member of Team SmackDown. The crowd chanted “Yes.” Shane accepted by doing the Yes chants.
