WWE SmackDown live results: AJ Styles-Samoa Joe contract signing


SmackDown takes place from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado tonight.
WWE Champion AJ Styles and Samoa Joe are set to clash in a no disqualification, no countout match at Super Show-Down on October 6th. Tonight, they’ll come face-to-face in the ring for their official contract signing.
Last week, there was a storyline where Lana overheard Aiden English insulting her and Rusev. She attempted to tell Rusev, but he didn’t have time before his match. Rusev nearly defeated United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura to become the new champion. However, English distracted Rusev, which allowed Nakamura to score the win. After the match, English turned on Rusev and beat him down. Tonight, Rusev’s demanding answers from English.
SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day will defend against The Bar at Super Show-Down. Tonight, New Day member Big E goes one-on-one with one half of The Bar, Sheamus.

R-Truth and Carmella were in the ring to start SmackDown. They were on the Miz TV set and played his music. R-Truth called it Truth TV instead of Miz TV. They brought out their guest Daniel Bryan. Truth put on his reading glasses and asked about The Miz. He referred to Maryse as the other Carmella. Truth asked Bryan if it would be cathartic to defeat Miz at Super Show-Down.
At one point, Carmella interrupted Bryan to announce the 5-minute dance break. Truth and Carmella then did a quick little dance. Bryan said it’s not enough to just return to the WWE but he also wants to become the WWE Champion. He has unfinished business with The Miz and the WWE Championship.
Miz interrupted. The crowded chanted “Truth TV”. Truth noted that he beat Miz two weeks ago. Miz doesn’t have a belt so Truth took his talk show. Miz promised to defeat Bryan at Super Show-Down and pointed out that he’ll do whatever it takes to win. He asked if Bryan would do the same but he can’t because of his moral code. Miz said if Bryan cheats he’d be tarnishing his legacy.
Truth was upset that Miz talked long, which meant he had to cancel the animal segment. Miz pointed out that it’s his show. Truth offered to fight the Miz for the talk show. Before Miz could respond Carmella yelled “Dance Break”. Truth and Carmella started dancing.
Backstage, Miz ran into Paige and was upset that Truth stole his show. She said the only way to get his show back is to defeat Truth.
Miz defeated R-Truth (w/Carmella) to win Miz TV
Daniel Bryan joined the announcers on commentary. Truth had the early advantage and scored a near fall. Miz briefly took over when he hung Truth on the top rope. Miz rocked Truth with a boot. He hit the It Kicks and Bryan criticized his technique on commentary.
After the commercial break, Miz was firmly in control. Truth fought back and hit a twisting flying forearm for a close near fall. Miz poked Truth in the eyes and hit the Skull Crushing Finale and looked right at Bryan. Miz hit Bryan’s running knee on Truth to win the match and Miz TV.
Earlier today, Charlotte Flair was posing for pictures. Flair got a mixed reaction from the crowd. Suddenly, Becky Lynch jumped Flair and beat her down. The crowd popped big for Lynch. She held the belt up and posed with one foot on Flair. The fans popped again. When they returned to the announcers that crowed broke into a loud “Becky” chant. They announced that Flair was evaluated and sent home due to the attack.
Sheamus (w/ Cesaro) defeated Big E. (w/Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods)
Before the match, Woods noted that sometimes they play too much. Kingston agreed and pointed out The New Day respects The Bar. Big E said they’re going to play the say something nice challenge. They compared Cesaro to Jason Statham and mocked Sheamus’ red hair. The Bar promised to defeat The New Day and Cesaro guaranteed Sheamus would be victorious.
Big E was firmly in control and hit a running splash on the apron. Big E. hit a belly-to-belly suplex but Sheamus blocked the third attempt. Big E attempted a splash but Sheamus got the knees up.
Big E countered the Brogue Kick into a power bomb for a near fall. Big E went for the spear on the apron but Sheamus nailed him with a knee. Finish came when Big E went for the Big Ending but Sheamus countered with The Brogue Kick for the win.
Backstage, Paige begged AJ Styles not to fight with Samoa Joe. She pointed out there’s expensive equipment at ringside. Styles noted if he needs to destroy anything it’ll be Joe.
Rusev and Lana met backstage. Rusev wants to know why Aiden English attacked him last week.
Rusev and Lana came down to the ring to address Aiden English. Rusev noted that English attacked him on Rusev Day. That makes him a traitor. English came out. He took credit for Rusev becoming the most beloved superstar in WWE. English showed footage from the first Rusev Day and their friendship.
English blamed Lana for the team’s problems. English then showed footage of Lana bringing the team down. He noted things were better when it was just English and Rusev. Lana noted that English is just using Rusev. English wondered if Lana is honest with Rusev. He then asked Lana if she was going to be honest about that one night in Milwaukee. Lana was upset over the allegation. The crowed chanted “Milwaukee”.
Backstage, Lana and Rusev tried to figure out what Aiden English meant by saying “Milwaukee”. Becky Lynch approached and mocked them. She promised to defeat Lana later. Rusev wondered when was the last time they were in Milwaukee.
Naomi & Asuka defeated Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville
Before the match, the IIconics were in the ring and about to speak when Naomi’s music cut them off. The IIconics joined in on commentary. The heels were firmly in control and isolated Asuka. Naomi got the hot tag and caught Rose with a hurricanrana. Rose nailed Naomi with a knee to regain control. Finish came when Asuka and Naomi hit a sick looking double kick for the win.
Tye Dillinger defeated United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura by DQ in a non-title match
Nakamura tried to jump Dillinger. Dillinger countered and backed Nakamura into the corner. Nakamura gained the advantage. He attempted the Kinshasa but Dillinger hit a super kick. He followed up with a frog splash for a near fall. Dillinger was firmly in control.
Suddenly, Randy Orton ran out and attacked Dillinger. He beat Dillinger around ringside and dropped him on the announcer desk. Orton gave Dillinger the draping DDT from the apron to the floor. Nakamura nailed Dillinger with the Kinshasa and Dillinger’s head struck the LED board.
Backstage, Rusev wished Lana good luck. Lana feels that Rusev doesn’t believe her about Milwaukee. He tried to ensure her that he does.
Backstage, Randy Orton noted Tye Dillinger’s not his next target. He attacked him because the Perfect 10 stuff angers him.
SmackDown Woman’s Champion Becky Lynch defeated Lana
The crowd chanted “Milwaukee” at the start of the match. Lana nailed Lynch with a bulldog for a one count. Lynch yanked Lana off the top turnbuckle to take over. Finish came when Lynch locked on the Dis-arm-her for the win.
Backstage, Aiden English wouldn’t elaborate on Milwaukee. He noted that he’s got proof and he’ll show it next week.
GM Paige was in the ring for the contract signing. She’s taken precautions for tonight but everyone knows how contract signings usually end. She introduced WWE Champion AJ Styles. She introduced Samoa Joe but he didn’t come out. Styles noted he’d probably jump him from behind.
Suddenly Joe appeared on the big screen. He reveled he’s at the Styles Home. Joe pointed out that Styles is far away in Colorado. Styles was furious and pleaded with Joe not to enter his home. Joe even had a present for Styles’ daughter Annie. Joe got closer and closer to do the front door. Joe wants Styles to remember this feeling and promised to defeat Styles at Super Show-Down.
Joe teased entering the house but rang the doorbell instead. He said, “daddy’s home” and the screen cut to black.
