WWE Raw live results: Goldberg & Brock Lesnar meet face-to-face

The Big Takeaway: The go-home show for Survivor Series featuring a great last hour. Team SmackDown showed up for a great brawl to close the show. Goldberg and Brock Lesnar had one of the most heated segments in the recent history of Raw where they two never touched, but the crowd was at a fever pitch supporting Goldberg. Easily the best Raw of this PPV cycle.

Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon were in the ring while each member of the Raw roster participating in the Survivor Series were on the ramp. Foley gave them a pep talk. Stephanie said they would all have to perform up to expectations this Sunday against teams from SmackDown Live or else changes would be made.

Foley said Cesaro and Sheamus would face Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns in a tag title match. Stephanie reminded Seth Rollins that he power bombed Chris Jericho on top of Bruan Strowman through a table last week. Tonight, those three would have to team to face the New Day. Foley arranged a tag team match with Charlotte and Sasha Banks facing Nia Jax and Alicia Fox. Foley ordered the Cesaro/Sheamus vs. Reigns/Owens bout to begin immediately.

Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns defeated Sheamus and Cesaro (12:11)

Owens refused to tag Reigns throughout the match. Cesaro clotheslined Reigns over the top rope. Owens walked over and starting jawing to Reigns, leading to Cesaro hitting a corkscrew tope on both men. Owens got into the match after the commercial, but Cesaro hit the springboard uppercut. Though Cesaro made the hot tag, Owens still wouldn’t tag out. Owens used the tights to send Sheamus out of the ring, then tagged Reigns when he wasn’t expecting it. Reigns made his own comeback outside the ring and hit the Superman’s Punch. Cesaro saved. Reigns used the Superman Punch on Cesaro to send him out of the ring. Reigns was ready to use the Spear on Sheamus, but Owens tagged Reigns. This led to an argument between the two, but Sheamus gave Owens the Brogue kick. Reigns gave Sheamus the spear, then put a lifeless Owens on top of Sheamus for the pin.

Jericho, Rollins and Strowman were backstage. Jericho said he knew there was tension between the three of them, so in a show of camaraderie, he gave each of them gifts. Rollisn opened his present, which was a scarf. Rollins said if he wanted to dress like Jericho, he would have raided Lady Gaga’s closet and left. Instead of opening his gift, Strowman said he wanted Jericho’s scarf. Jericho said it cost $750, but complied. Jericho opened Strowman’s gift, which was a scarf in royal blue adorned in anchors, which he felt was fitting since he was the captain of the team. Strowman tore up Jericho’s scarf, saying he doesn’t like scarves and he doesn’t like Jericho.

Sami Zayn defeated Bo Dallas (2:32)

This match was set up in the pregame show when Bo Dallas told Sami Zayn that he didn’t deserve to face Dolph Ziggler or the Miz (they’re facing off for the title tomorrow on SmackDown Live) for the Intercontinental Championship on Sunday. Zayn gave Dallas an Exploder Suplex in the corner and pinned him with the Helluva Kick.

Zayn did a postmatch interview with Byron Saxton vowing to bring the championship back to Raw.

All of the cruiserweights were backstage when Brian Kendrick walked in and demanded their attention. Kendrick said he’s defending the cruiserweight championship against Kalisto on Sunday and it’s unclear of the cruiserweights will be on Raw next week. But they should put their faith in him. T.J. Perkins wondered why since he’s never received his rematch from Kendrick since beating him by DQ three weeks ago. Rich Swann spoke up and said he deserves a title shot because he’s beaten Kendrick each of the last two weeks. Sin Cara stepped in and insulted Kendrick and everyone argued.

The New Day came out. Xavier Woods said they had a new member Francescha 2. Woods had a cart full of New Day merchandise, including New Day Socks. That actually got a chant. There were new Unicorn horns and a box of Booty Os. And “Who?” t-shirts. They started throwing swag to the fans.

Braun Strowman, Chris Jericho and Seth Rollins defeated the New Day (14:04)

The finish had an impressive sequence. Kofi Kingston attempted a tope on Strowman, who caught Kingston in mid-air and dumped him on the floor. Strowman then knocked down Big E. with a running bodyblock. In the ring, Rollins attempted the Pedigree on Woods, but Jericho tagged himself in. Jericho attempted the Walls of Jericho, but Woods countered it into a small package for a near fall. Strowman tagged Jericho at this point, and Jericho threw Woods into Strowman, who delivered an Oklahoma Stampede for the pin.

Rollins was mad at Jericho after the match. Jericho screamed how he was the captain and Rollins responded by giving him a Pedigree.

Foley and Stephanie talked backstage when Paul Heyman walked in. Stephanie wondered how he was doing after getting speared by Goldberg two weeks ago. Heyman said the only time when he’s sore is when he moves. He reminded Stephanie that he wasn’t the one who will face Goldberg on Saturday, Brock Lesnar is. Lesnar said it was Stephanie’s reponsibility to get Team Raw ready against Team Smackdown on Sunday and right now, Smackdown’s squad didn’t look too shabb, and left. Foley got on a walkie-talkie and ordered extra security for the Lesnar-Goldberg confrontation later tonight.

Charlotte and Banks bickered backstage. Charlotte said she was the captain of the team (same thing Jericho said during the first half of the show). Banks told her to watch it when they team tonight or else they would be sorry.

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Brian Kendrick defeated Sin Cara by submission in a nontitle match (11:04)

Kendrick jumped Cara before the bell and held the upper-hand for most of the match. Sin Cara backdropped Kendrick out of the ring and delivered a tope. Cara attempted another but Kendrick hurled him into the dasherboards. Crowd started chanting “boring.” Cara used a spinning backbreaker and a Liger Bomb for near falls. Kendrick tugged at Cara’s mask, then clamped on the Captain’s Hook. Cara’s mask was tilted, which Saxton explained made it harder for him to breathe, so he tapped.

Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows stumbled on Enzo Amore and Big Cass, who said Anderson and Gallows looked like Dr. Evil and Mini-Me. Gallows ordered them to drop the lame comedy routine and they’ll continue to do what they do best, being mean and making green. Cass said they heard Gallows said they would stab any of their teammates on Sunday in the back, but if they ever did that to them, it would come with consequences.

It was time for the Goldberg-Lesnar faceoff. There was extra security in the ring lined up diagonally, exactly the same way for the buildup to Lennox Lewis-Mike Tyson for a prematch buildup for their 2002 fight. Heyman started his spiel, but Goldberg interrupted him saying it had nothing to do with him, it was only about him and Lesnar. Whole crowd chanted “Goldberg.” Goldberg told Heyman to get the rent-a-cops out of the ring so the only two real men in the ring could get it on. Arena was showered with “Goldberg” chants. Heyman admitted Goldberg threw him off his game and was getting booed whenever he talked. Heyman said the guards weren’t rent-a-cops, they were here for Goldberg’s protection. As much as the fans chant Goldberg’s name, which only got the chants louder.

Heyman started again and Lesnar was booed as much as he’s been in years. Heyman said the guards won’t be at the Survivor Series and if Goldberg doesn’t believe him, then ask the Undertaker or John Cena. Goldberg stopped Heyman again and said there was a long list of people that Lesnar has conquered, but his name isn’t on it. That burns Lesnar’s ass. Goldberg told Lesnar he heard what he said about Goldberg’s family last week and he could take Lesnar’s list and shove it up his ass. Heyman told Goldberg to show some false respect and to think of his wife and child who are at ringside Goldberg told Heyman the next time he mentions his family, he’ll rip off Heyman’s head and feed it to Lesnar.

Heyman apologized to Goldberg about raising his voice. He said Goldberg’s image of being a superhero is a fantasy, but Lesnar was very real. Crowd got tired of Heyman talking and chanted for Goldberg some more. Heyman offered Goldberg a chance to remain in the fantasy world and he would find a suitable replacement for Goldberg to be victimized by Lesnar. Goldberg ripped off his tank top. Heyman told Goldberg he was getting too agitated and told Goldberg he would be beaten, victimized and conquered by Lesnar. At this point, Lesnar threw down one of the array of security guards. Heyman said Lesnar would beat Goldberg up so badly, Goldberg’s children would look at Lesnar and call him Daddy.

Goldberg started destroying the security guards one by one until there were three left. Goldberg told all of them to leave and they did. Goldberg and Lesnar teased a showdown, but Lesnar left. This segment had incredible heat and Lesnar was clearly the heel. This may have been the biggest response for Goldberg since the night he defeated Hulk Hogan for the WCW Championship in 1998.

Charlotte & Sasha Banks defeated Nia Jax and Alicia Fox via submission (7:37)

Charlotte slapped Banks as a form of a tag, which led to the two exchanging forearms. Fox came off the top rope for a crossbody block on both women, and Banks kicked out and put Fox in the Bank Statement for the tap. Bailey, who was on commentary, came down to the ring to quell things.

Foley talked with Jericho, Owens, Rollins, Reigns and Strowman saying they all proved exactly what he thought, they could win without getting along. Jericho and Owens said they were the co-captains of the team. Foely called Jericho “O’ Captain, My Co-Captain” and told all of them to stick around for the confrontation with Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon later tonight.

Another Maokeover of Emma to Emmalina vignette.

Michael Cole mentioned that SmackDown Live was the 2nd longest weekly episodic show in television history because Raw was first.

Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, Enzo Amore & Big Cass defeated The Shining Stars and the Golden Truth (9:02)

Gallows pinned Primo after the Magic Killer. Gallows teased allowing Enzo and Cass to use the Rocket Launcher for the pin, but then Gallows covered Primo and the two teams started arguing. The Shining Stars and the Golden Truth didn’t get along either. R-Truth tried to make the hot tag to Goldust, but Epico pulled Goldust’s arm out of the way and Primo got the tag. Truth and Goldust later pulled Epico out of the ring to keep him from interfering in the finish. The bickering tag partners routine ran its course during the third hour of last week’s show, so you can only imagine what it felt like having seen it four times tonight.

Stephanie and Foley were in the ring for the Survivor Series faceoff with Shane and Bryan. Foley shook hands with Shane and Bryan. Stephanie leaned in for a hug, which Shane denied. She did shake hands with Bryan. Shane mentioned the 900th episode of SmackDown tomorrow night featuring the returns of the Undertaker and Edge.

Stephanie said Raw would prove on Sunday they were the dominant brand. Shane said SmackDown was the better show even though the deck was stacked against them because they drafted better. Stephanie brought up Shane competing on SmackDown’s team and called him a hyprocrite. All Shane could do was compete and jump off of tall structures. She said if Team SmackDown loses, it will be because of Shane. Bryan said he put Shane on Team SmackDown because he’s a real leader who can bring people together, unlike other people he knows. Bryan thanked Foley for putting up the entire criuserweight division because he can’t wait to have them on SmackDown.

Foley said he has faith in Kendrick and Zayn and they would win on Sunday. Foley also ran down Bryan for saying Raw was lazy and complacent. Shane said he knew he could goad Stephanie into this match because her ego couldn’t handle him getting the best of him. Shane talked about being on SmackDown’s team because he was leading by example. Stephanie then brought out Team Raw, and Jericho, Owens, Rollins, Strowman and Reigns came out. They teased beating up Shane and Bryan.

Crowd started chanting for A.J. Styles Bryan wondered if they thought they came along. Styles, Randy Orton, Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt and James Ellsworth (team mascot) came out of the crowd. Owens welcomed all of them to the Kevin Owens Show and said Styles’ championship meant absolutely nothing. Styles said the world championship means nothing? Styles said Owens’ championship meant he was nothing but a paper champion. He was the champ who runs the camp. Owens said his title means more than Styles’ because he’s the one wearing it and he’s going to prove it on Sunday.

Styles said the only thing Owens has proved is he’s on Jericho’s sugar tit. Styles warned Owens that he was once friends with Styles, but don’t be surprised if Owens takes a knife to the back or even winds up on Jericho’s list. Jericho huggede Owens and told him he was the best friend ever. Ambrose had to cover his mouth, perhaps from laughing.

Jericho said if Styles came down to Raw to insult Raw and “he just made the list” to a huge pop. Then Jericho put Styles’ soccer mom haircut on the list. Jericho looked at Ellsworth and wondered what the hell was that? He thought it was a missing child who wondered down to ringside, then added him to the list.

Wyatt accused Strowman of abadoning his brothers and abadoning him. This Sunday, they’ll destroy the monster that he created. Orton and Strowman got into a staredown. Rollins wondered if this was the fight that Shane wanted to pick because he has no idea what Rollins and Reigns are capable of when they’re on the same page.

Ambrose grabbed the mic acting like he was going to say something, then punched Jericho. A brawl erupted, including Strowman going after Shane and slamming Ambrose to the mat. Strowman gave Shane a running splash. Ambrose and Styles double teamed Strowman, and Shane jumped on Strowman and they fell over the top rope. Ambrose gave Rollins a tope. Styles and Jericho squared off, with Jericho drop kicking Styles to the floor. But Jericho turned around into an RKO from Orton. Reigns gave Orton a Superman Punch to massive boos. Reigns gave Wyatt a Superman Punch. Reigns teased a tope onto all of the men on the floor, but Styles intercepted him. Rollins hit Styles from behind and gave Styles a Pedigree. Then, in a throwback to the Shield, Rollis lifted Styles up for Reigns to power bomb him onto the five members of Team SmackDown, and Team Raw was left standing tall with Stephanie and Foley. The brawl had a lot of heat and this was easily the best angle regarding a Survivor Series match that didn’t involve Lesnar vs. Goldberg.
