WWE Raw live results: Extreme Rules fallout

Date: July 20, 2020
Location: WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL

The Big Takeaway —

Randy Orton beat the Big Show and punted him after the match.

Sasha Banks is not the Raw Women’s Champion. It’s unclear who is. Banks and Asuka will wrestle next week for the title in a match made by Stephanie McMahon. Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler will have a WWE title rematch next week as well. McIntyre gets to pick the stipulation this time.

Mustafa Ali returned to join Ricochet and Cedric Alexander. The trio beat MVP, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin (who is the new 24/7 champ). The Street Profits also returned after being gone a few weeks to beat Andrade and Angel Garza.

Apollo Crews, Kevin Owens, Billie Kay and Ric Flair were among those not on Raw. They’re still claiming an injury for Crews. Kay’s absence was notable given that Peyton Royce was on the show. Owens’ absence may have happened simply so they didn’t have to explain why he didn’t save Aleister Black from getting beat up by Seth Rollins and Murphy.

Show Recap —

There was a video recap of the eye for an eye match, including a shot of Rey Mysterio holding his eye and Seth Rollins puking.

This was followed by Tom Phillips welcoming us to Raw as excited as ever as well as shots of the live crowd who were all as happy as can be.

Seth Rollins and Murphy entered. Phillips let us know that Mysterio’s optic nerve was not served and he should be able to make a full recovery.

The crowd booed Rollins and chanted “shame.” Rollins explained what happened in the match and said the visual will stay with him forever. Rollins asked himself if he regrets what he did then asked the WWE universe a question: “Do you regret what you have done to me?” He blamed the fans for making him and blamed them for what happened to Mysterio.

Rollins said what happened to Mysterio was unfortunate but we can’t dwell in the past. Rollins added, “Rey Mysterio is out of sight.” He chuckled and said nobody could stand in his way.

Aleister Black interrupted. Black placed the blame solely on Rollins and stated that he was here to rectify the situation. He ran down after Rollins but Murphy cut him off. Black took out Murphy and entered the ring but Rollins bailed.

Seth Rollins (w/Murphy) defeated Aleister Black

The match started during a break and Rollins was in control when they returned. Black took control after Rollins was distracted by the referee but Rollins took over again after Black missed a punch and punched the ring post instead. Rollins targetted the hand and arm after that.

Black came back with strikes (while still selling the arm) and also knocked Murphy off the apron. Black dodged a stomp and hit a Black Mass. Murphy ran in, which was not a DQ, and Black took him out with a Black Mass as Rollins rolled out of the ring which led to a break.

Rollins avoided a couple of Black Mass attempts and hit two superkicks. They had a brief exchange which led to Rollins hitting a curb stomp for the win.

Rollins and Murphy attacked Black after the match specifically targetted his arm. Murphy held him down as Rollins gave him a curb stomp to the arm. Black writhed around in pain as officials yelled at Rollins to back off. He left. (There was a moment where Rollins yelled at the announcers. Phillips and Byron Saxton backed off in fear but Samoa Joe remained in his seat.)

The finish of the match wasn’t set up well at all. As Rollins set up for the stomp, Black was just sort of waiting on all fours for too long and it seemed like he would move but didn’t. Rollins also took a while to make the cover. Black had the match won earlier, but if this was designed to protect him, it didn’t work.

MVP and Bobby Lashley spoke to Ron Simmons in the back. He advised them that there’s a better way to go about things. They bumped fists with Simmons and he left. R-Truth approached them and complimented MVP on his replica US title belt. MVP tried to convince him that it was the real belt and he was the champion. Truth wasn’t buying it.

Lashley got in his face which was just a distraction to allow Shelton Benjamin to attack him from behind. Benjamin kicked Truth and pinned him to win the 24/7 title. Benjamin left with MVP and Lashley.

MVP, Lashley and Benjamin entered the ring. MVP talked about Apollo Crews being injured and not keeping his word to be a fighting champion. MVP claimed he would have won the match anyway. He said they would beat Dumb and Dumber (Ricochet and Cedric Alexander) and they would go celebrate their championship gold.

Ricochet and Alexander interrupted. Alexander said the Dumb and Dumber comment may have been funny in 2006 when MVP’s career was relevant. (That movie came out in 1994.) They basically called him a fake champion and a chump. MVP called them kids and challenged them to a tag match against two of his guys since Crews wasn’t going to be there.

Ricochet and Alexander said they had a partner and it wasn’t Crews. They brought out Mustafa Ali. The three good guys took down Lashley with superkicks before clearing MVP and Benjamin from the ring.

6-man tag match: Mustafa Ali, Ricochet & Cedric Alexander defeated MVP, Bobby Lashley & 24/7 Champion Shelton Benjamin (14:56)

There was an entire segment with the heels beating the crap out of Alexander until his teammates tagged in briefly and hit two moves before they went to break. After the break, Ricochet was getting beat up.

Ricochet eventually came back with a dropkick and made the hot tag to Ali who knocked down MVP with forearms, a dropkick, chop, and X-factor but Lashley broke up the cover. Ricochet and Alexander each tried dives on Lashley but he caught them both by the throat. Ali then wiped out Lashley with a nice looking suicide dive.

Benjamin took out Alexander with a knee and Ricochet took out Benjamin with a moonsault. Ali avoided a big boot by MVP then hit a neckbreaker and a 450 splash for the pinfall win. This was pretty much all heat until the last two minutes or so.

Randy Orton was in the back and cut a promo into the camera. He wondered if we ever look back on moments that changed our lives. He reflected on joining Evolution, having a big match with Mick Foley at Backlash and becoming the youngest world champion. Those weren’t the moments he thought about, though. He thought about taking a steel chair to Edge’s neck.

He said Edge, Christian and Big Show were all guys who once saved him from himself. It amazed him that a moment from his history that could bring him pain also brings him satisfaction. It felt fantastic knowing he ended Edge’s career and ruined Christian’s chance for one more match. He looked forward to ending Show’s career once and for all.

Ron Simmons was shown speaking to the Viking Raiders in the back.

Phillips plugged the unsanctioned match and said WWE can’t be held liable for what happens. Does that mean they can be held liable for Mysterio losing his eye?

They aired a Big Show video package.

Christian was interviewed by the announcers via the internet. Christian said he will never look at Ric Flair or Randy Orton the same way again. Joe asked for an update on his health. Christian said some days are better than others but frankly, he doesn’t feel good. However, he would try it again if it meant Orton getting what he deserves. He couldn’t wait to watch Show knock out Orton tonight.

Sarah Schreiber interviewed Bianca Belair. Belair wore earrings with a picture of her face on them. Belair wanted to be nice and help Ruby Riott. She also didn’t care much for the thirstiest team in WWE. Peyton Royce interrupted her and suggested Belair find a better partner. Riott also suddenly appeared in the frame and wondered where Billie Kay was. Royce said she was off on business. They argued for a bit before Belair threatened to whip Royce.

Ruby Riott defeated Peyton Royce (3:17)

Royce controlled most of the match but Riott ducked a move off the top and hit a Riott Kick for the win. Riott was emotional after the match because she finally beat an IIconic member in a singles match.

Charly Caruso interviewed Angel Garza, Andrade and Zelina Vega. She asked Garza a question but Vega answered instead (again). Vega said the Street Profits have been in hiding since her clients have exerted their dominance. Andrade said they would become tag champs. Garza spoke to Caruso when they were suddenly attacked by Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins.

Raw Tag Team Champions The Street Profits defeated Andrade & Angel Garza (w/Zelina Vega) in a non-title match (11:08)

The Street Profits won when Ford hit an impressive damn frog splash where he twisted mid-air to land flush on Garza. Dawkins’ offense looked good too after making the hot tag. This was a surprisingly decisive win for the champions.

[Third hour]

Andrade and Garza spoke backstage. They were frustrated with the loss, but they didn’t appear to be frustrated with each other. Vega confronted them about the loss. Garza said they were on the same page. She told them to prove it.

Bayley & Sasha Banks promo

Banks came out with the Raw Women’s title and Bayley told the crowd to congratulate her. Banks said there was no controversy. She fought for the belt, unlike Asuka who was handed the belt by Becky Lynch. She said Asuka sprayed mist on the face of that poor referee and Bayley put on the shirt because her match needed an official.

Bayley said she did the right thing because she’s a role model. Banks called herself “two belts Banks” and now they had all of the belts.

Asuka interrupted. She said the title was hers. Banks invited her to come get it. Asuka and Kairi Sane marched down but stopped when Stephanie McMahon’s face appeared on the screen (via the internet).

Stephanie congratulated Banks and Bayley on their success but said her match with Asuka was indeed a horror show. Stephanie said Banks didn’t win the match last night but neither did Asuka.

Stephanie made Banks vs. Asuka for next week to determine the real champion. She made it clear that Banks can lose by DQ, countout or if Bayley gets involved.

I suppose this means the title is vacant but it wasn’t really clear. Saxton continued to call Asuka the rightful champion.

Kairi Sane (w/Asuka) defeated Smackdown Women’s Champion & Tag Team Champion Bayley (w/Tag Team Champion Sasha Banks) (15:33)

Sane used a double foot stomp but Bayley rolled out of the ring before she could make a cover and they went to break. (As Bayley rolled out she fell into Banks knocking her over. This wasn’t a planned spot and Banks couldn’t help but laugh upon falling down.)

Caruso interviewed Shayna Baszler in the back while the match was happening. Caruso asked if she had a vested interest in the match. Baszler uncomfortably read her lines and used a lot of words to basically say yes.

Sane used a double foot stomp off the top for two. She missed a sliding forearm but came right back with a back fist and spear. Sane hit an Insane Elbow but took too long to make the cover (because of an injured arm) and Bayley got a rope break.

Bayley blocked a spear with a knee and followed with a back suplex and flying elbow drop for a close nearfall. Sane countered a Bayley-to-belly into a schoolgirl for the pinfall win. Sane pins Bayley. Cool finishing sequence. Asuka was ecstatic.

Schrieber found Drew McIntyre and asked him, “what kind of condition are you in after that brutal match against Dolph Ziggler last night at Horror Show at Extreme Rules?” She said this in record speed. McIntyre felt like he fell down a flight of stairs but he was still the champion and that felt good. He was going to the ring to address his future.

Drew McIntyre promo

McIntyre credited Ziggler for picking a clever stipulation and admitted that Ziggler almost had him. However, coming up short was the story of Ziggler’s career. Up next was SummerSlam and he wanted a worthy opponent for such a big show.

Ziggler interrupted. He said he saw fear in McIntyre’s eyes for the first time. McIntyre was sick of seeing him. Ziggler continued to talk so McIntyre told him to bugger off because he beat him just 24 hours ago. Ziggler kept pleading his case until McIntyre told him he was embarrassing himself. McIntyre wanted to do him a favour so he went to leave the ring.

Ziggler was about to go after him so McIntyre knocked him down with a headbutt. Before McIntyre could leave, Ziggler basically begged him for a rematch under whatever circumstances McIntyre wanted. He could pick the time, place and stipulation.

McIntyre liked that idea. He accepted. Ziggler wanted to know the stip. McIntyre was going to wait until it was time for the match like Ziggler did.

Big Show cut a promo in the back. He said Orton systematically took out everyone who helped him out of his hole. Show knew he was next on the list and knew his career was in jeopardy. Show hoped the sadistic side of Orton wouldn’t show its head again but it did, whether it was the influence of Flair or the voices in his head.

Show recalled tagging with Orton on the road and they gave themselves the nickname of Hammer and Chisel. He recalled the talks they had about trying to change your stripes and they bonded because they knew what they were each dealing with. It’s different now that Orton has brought back the legend killer.

Show asked himself if this was the end of the line for him. He said tigers are their most dangerous when they feared being close to the end. He knew he was at the end of the line but Orton wouldn’t write the end of his story. This was good.

Unsanctioned match: Randy Orton defeated Big Show (13:47)

Show said in his promo that Flair would be at Orton’s side but he wasn’t.

Show knocked Orton down with a spear before grabbing a table. Andrade and Garza ran down to attack Show as Vega watched from the ramp. The Viking Raiders made the save. The teams brawled which led to a break.

Orton went for a punt but Show grabbed him and hit a chokeslam for a nearfall. Show set up for the KO punch but Orton left the ring. Show set up a table in the ring and placed Orton on it. Show tried a splash off the second rope but crashed through the table after Orton moved.

Orton followed with an RKO but Show kicked out. Orton grabbed a chair and used it repeatedly before hitting a draping DDT off the top rope. Orton then hit another RKO for the pinfall win.

As Show struggled to his feet, Orton punted him.
