WWE Raw live results: Asuka vs. Sasha Banks

Raw was filled with questionable booking.

Show Recap — 

The announcers ran down tonight’s card. Byron Saxton was practically out of breath having to repeat, “the Horror Show at Extreme Rules.” 

Randy Orton entered and they aired a long video package for his match against Big Show. 

Orton said he’s been in WWE for 20 years and has had plenty of nicknames and accolades. He also mentioned the iconic teams he’s been on (including Legacy). He spoke about the greats of the past like Steve Austin and The Rock and said their careers couldn’t measure up to his. 

Orton said there’s been something missing but he woke up this morning and realized he wanted to be WWE Champion again. Orton wasn’t going to compare his resume to Drew McIntyre because that would be a short conversation. 

He said McIntyre was so far up his own ass ten years ago that he got himself fired. But McIntyre showed hustle and earned his respect after beating Brock Lesnar. Orton said McIntyre had a problem: “You have what I want.” Orton wanted a title match at SummerSlam. Orton said he would hit an RKO and McIntyre would never see it coming. 

As Orton left, Nia Jax’s music hit and she entered (they didn’t interact). 

Jax knew how Orton felt because she woke up this morning wanting to be Raw Women’s Champion. She was screwed by the referee in her last chance and Charlotte Flair stepped in line in front of her. Charlotte hasn’t been seen since. 

Shayna Baszler interrupted. Baszler got in Jax’s face and said nobody gave a damn about what she wanted. Jax attacked her and they brawled until referees separated them. 

After a break, the Street Profits did ring introductions for the upcoming match to determine their next challengers. They introduced the Viking Raiders as guys who could have helped Thor defeat Thanos. They introduced Cedric Alexander and Ricochet as “flyboys” (not their official name). They also let Angel Garza know that Charly Caruso was more interested in Ivar. 

Triple threat tag match: Andrade & Angel Garza (w/Zelina Vega) defeated The Viking Raiders and Ricochet & Cedric Alexander 

Andrade and Garza attacked each team before the match. (Actually, they attacked the Viking Raiders and tossed Ricochet and Alexander from the ring when they tried to make the save.) Garza also chucked his pants at Angelo Dawkins. The Street Profits joined commentary. 

Ricochet and Andrade worked together against Ivar. They got into an argument but Andrade tried to reason with Ricochet. Ricochet believed him of course and Andrade attacked him from behind. Garza superkicked Ivar and Erik took out Garza with a suplex and double knee strike. 

Andrade and Garza were suddenly in complete control over both teams following a break. Ricochet made a comeback on Garza and hit a standing shooting star for two. Everyone traded moves leading to Erik hitting Andrade with a knee strike. Erik went for a dive but Garza cut him off with a kick. 

Ivar then took out Alexander, Ricochet and his teammate Erik with a damn flip dive off the top to the outside. 

Garza managed to avoid the dive, so he grabbed Alexander and gave him a Wing Clipper for the pinfall win. Garza and Andrade earn a title match at SummerSlam. 

The Street Profits applauded the winners. Andrade and Garza attacked them and ran away before the Profits could retaliate. 

Jax spoke with referee John Cone in the back. 

Nia Jax DCO Shayna Baszler (0:44) 

This was over quick. They brawled on the outside until Cone counted them out (Jax appeared to have the edge in the brawl). They continued to brawl after the bell and attacked security who tried to stop them. Referees finally managed to hold back Baszler. 

There was a recap of the eye for an eye match. 

Seth Rollins asked Murphy if he was with him. Murphy asked him if he thought Dominick would really show up tonight. Rollins said yes because people like him can’t seem to get out of their own way. He said the greater good would move forward and tonight would be different. 

[Second hour] 

They showed Mark Henry speaking with Ruby Riott and Bianca Belair in the back.

Rollins said he was on a roll after beating Rey Mysterio and Aleister Black but still wasn’t in a good mood because Dominick was there to confront him. People kept stepping in his way and they kept getting hurt. Kevin Owens got in his way and hurt his ankle and Black injured his arm. Rollins didn’t want to be the person who hurts people. 

Rollins recalled Dominick jumping him the last time he was on Raw. Tonight would be different because he didn’t want violence. He invited Dominick to the ring. 

Dominick entered. Murphy held the ropes open for him. Rollins assured him that he as safe to enter the ring. 

Rollins offered Dominick his guidance. Rollins held his arms open but Dominick attacked him and took him down. Murphy tried to make the save but Dominick took him down too. Rollins saved Murphy and they double-teamed him. 

They tossed Dominick into the barricade and announce table. Rollins noticed the steel steps and grabbed Dominick but Black (whose arm was tapped) flew in for the save. The numbers were too much though and they took him out. Rollins gave him a curb stomp. 

Rollins gazed at the steel steps again and told Murphy he knew what he had to do. Murphy didn’t want to do it. Rollins slapped him and reminded him about all the times Black defeated him. Murphy grabbed Black and pushed his eye into the corner of the step. Before he could poke the eye right out, Rollins pulled him off. Officials ran out to tend to Black. 

Dominick reemerged with a Kendo stick and violently attacked both guys until they managed to run off. Officials held back Dominick. 

I’m tired of the eye stuff. On the plus side, Dominick came across great here. 

R-Truth spoke with Mustafa Ali in the back. Basically, Truth wanted to make sure Ali wasn’t going after the 24/7 title. Ali assured him that he was focused on his match with Bobby Lashley. Ali called him, “Mufasa” and left. This was dumb. 

MVP’s VIP Lounge 

Another talking segment. 

MVP was in the ring with Lashley and Shelton Benjamin (wearing a Shad Gaspard t-shirt). MVP introduced Ali as his guest. 

MVP warned Ali that he could end up like his little friends Cedric and Ricochet. Ali reminded MVP that he and his friends beat the Hurt Business last week. Ali was ecstatic to be back, climb the ladder and become a champion — a real champion. He looked at MVP and the US title while he said that. He also accused Lashley and Benjamin of being brainwashed. 

MVP reminded Ali that he has a match against Lashley tonight. MVP also reminded him of what happened to Apollo Crews after he took a similar path that Ali appeared to be choosing now. Ali didn’t care what his proposal was. 

As Ali spoke, Truth appeared, tackled Benjamin out of the ring and tried pinning him but he kicked out. Truth ran away and they went to break. Ali was pretty good here. 

Bobby Lashley (w/MVP & Shelton Benjamin) defeated Mustafa Ali (11:50) 

Lashley was in full control for the first three minutes and hit a delayed vertical suplex (he had him up for 10-11 seconds). At this point, Akira Tozawa tried pinning Benjamin on the outside but he kicked out. Benjamin, MVP and Lashley all took out ninjas as they tried to attack. Lashley grabbed a ninja but Ali wiped him out with a suicide dive, which led to commercials. 

Lashley was back in control after the break. Lashley knocked Ali out of the ring and sent him flying into the ring post. Lashley followed later with an elevated Flatliner for a nearfall. He tried a Dominator but Ali landed on his feet before hitting a boot and satellite DDT. 

Ali went for a splash but rolled through when he noticed Lashley got to his feet. Lashley caught him in the full nelson and Ali tapped out. (Ali was tapping for a good 3 or 4 seconds before the ref noticed). Yikes. Ali got a few moves in but this was basically a 12-minute squash. 

Dolph Ziggler told Caruso that Orton would be facing him at SummerSlam for the title. 

Sasha Banks defeated Asuka via countout to win the Raw Women’s Championship (19:27) 

Banks called Stephanie McMahon a bully who was jealous of her gold and the fact that they run the whole damn company. Bayley said they run the show and they stand up against injustice, which is why she acted as the referee at Extreme Rules. Bayley said Banks would tap-out Asuka, “the empress of nothing.” Asuka and Sane entered. Sane chased Bayley to the back. 

Asuka used Yes kicks and a shining wizard for an early two count. Asuka applied an armbar but Banks got a rope break. Banks wrenched her leg in the rope before hitting a backstabber for two. Banks targetted the leg and applied a single leg crab. Asuka kicked her out of the ring. 

Banks was upset and claimed a lack of respect. She acted as though she was going to leave before chucking the tag title belt in the ring. The ref removed the belt as Banks tired to pull an Eddie Guerrero by tossing Raw Women’s title belt to Asuka before falling down. The ref saw the whole thing so it didn’t work. 

Asuka kicked her in the head but instead of going for a cover, she taunted while looking at the hard camera because it was time for a commercial break. 

[Third hour] 

Banks kicked Asuka’s leg out of her leg and continued to target it. Banks used a double knee strike for two and followed with a single leg crab. Asuka fought out and applied a kneebar before transitioning into an ankle lock. Banks countered by flipping Asuka into the turnbuckle. Banks came off the top but Asuka caught her with a Codebreaker. 

Asuka followed with a German suplex and running hip attack for two. Banks headbutted Asuka off the ropes and followed with a frog splash for two. Banks immediately applied a crossface but Asuka slipped out. Banks pushed her out of the ring and dropped Asuka knee-first onto the announce table. Asuka just barely got back in before a ten count. 

Asuka tried a schoolgirl for a nearfall. Banks applied the crossface but Asuka reversed into an ankle lock. Banks slipped out but Asuka hit a missile dropkick. 

The big screen began showing Bayley attacking Sane in the back. Asuka continued to attack Banks but was distracted while doing so. Asuka decided to run to the back to save Sane. The referee counted her out and Banks was announced the winner and new champion. 

Asuka found Sane but Bayley ran off. Bayley ran to the ring and celebrated with Banks. 

Very good match until the finish. Not sure who decided it was a good idea to air what was happening in the back while the match was underway. 

After a break, Caruso let us know that Asuka and Sane were in the trainer’s room. Bayley and Banks appeared to loudly celebrate for a moment. After they left, Asuka emerged from the trainer’s room in tears. She yelled in Japanese. 

There was a tribute video for Regis Philbin. 

Murphy defeated Humberto Carrillo (6:38) 

They had a back-and-forth match until Murphy nailed a V-Trigger as Carrillo came off the top. Murphy followed with Murphy’s Law for the pinfall win. Good while it lasted. 

Where was Carrillo earlier when Dominick and Black were getting beat up? 

McIntyre was shown speaking to Mark Henry in the back. 

McIntyre came out and addressed Orton. He said their title match at SummerSlam was official. McIntyre called Orton the biggest threat to his title. McIntyre knew people thought he would be the underdog (oh?). He hoped Orton felt that way too because Lesnar did and he beat Lesnar in five minutes. McIntyre warned Orton that he would see the Claymore coming. 

Ziggler entered. He wanted to know the stipulation. McIntyre picked an Extreme Rules match, with the rules applying to both men. He slapped Ziggler. 

WWE Champion Drew McIntyre defeated Dolph Ziggler in a non-title extreme rules match (14:33) 

There was a spot where McIntyre lawn-darted Ziggler into the plexiglass which caused it to break. McIntyre attacked with a Kendo stick and used it to give Ziggler a side Russian leg sweep into the barricade. McIntyre threw Ziggler and a bunch of steel chairs in the ring. 

McIntyre set up a table in the corner and hit Ziggler with a chair. Ziggler followed with a low-blow, a legal move that was booed by the audience. Ziggler then used the Kendo stick, also doing a side Russian leg sweep into the barricade. McIntyre caught Ziggler off the apron before running and driving him through the barricade. 

After a break, Ziggler was still down from the barricade spot as McIntyre got to his feet. In the ring, McIntyre used a clothesline, belly-to-belly suplexes and flying clothesline but Ziggler countered a DDT attempt into a Fameasser. Ziggler went to the top but McIntyre cut him off and hit a superplex. Ziggler dodged a Claymore attempt and hit a Zig-Zag for two. 

McIntyre followed by Claymore kicking Ziggler through the corner table for the pinfall win. 

As McIntyre celebrated, Orton flew in and gave him an RKO. Orton posed with the title as the show ended.
