WWE NXT results: Who was the last woman standing?

The Big News: Asuka took two nasty bumps that could have believably led to her defeat, but somehow, some way, she persevered and retained her NXT Women’s Championship in a last woman standing match against Nikki Cross.

The Medium News: Hideo Itami and Oney Lorcan wrestled twice. Lorcan first got the better of Itami as the match was called off via ref stoppage, but then Itami won the immediate rematch.

The Little Beaver-sized News: In two weeks, Heavy Machinery challenge The Authors of Pain for the NXT tag titles.

The show began with Nigel McGuinness introducing the returning Mauro Ranallo as the newest NXT announcer.

Velveteen Dream defeated HoHo Lun

This was a very basic encounter. Lun has never really gotten the chance to show what he’s got, and tonight was no exception. Dream won with a jackhammer and a top rope elbow, which may be called the Purple Rainmaker. Ranallo called it that, but that may just be his hyperbole.

Asuka was being driven to the arena and being asked stupid questions. Suddenly, Nikki Cross leapt onto the hood of the car and began screaming at the champ. Asuka screamed at her in Japanese.

Since the windows were tinted, I wonder how many cars Cross did that to until she got the right one?

Heavy Machinery were in William Regal’s office yelling at The Authors of Pain. AOP were just standing there staring at them. Mr. Regal told them to knock it off and made a title match between AOP and Heavy Machinery for two weeks from now.

Regal told Paul Ellering to have his boys well prepared for their match.

Oney Lorcan vs. Hideo Itami was called off due to a ref stoppage

This was a rematch from three weeks ago. Itami had laid out Lorcan with three different Go to Sleeps and was in no hurry to make a cover until Kassius Ohno broke it up.

Lorcan exploded out of the corner at the bell to attack Itami. The bell had rung to start the match, but the referee pulled Lorcan back and called the doctors in to check on Itami five seconds into the match. Lorcan busted Itami’s nose up.

We actually got a ref stoppage. I was hoping they would pull the stool out from under Itami, but alas this wasn’t a total Bellator moment.

Next week it is Roderick Strong challenging Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship on the 400th episode of NXT. We got a PPV-quality video package to build the match up.

**********

Hideo Itami defeated Oney Lorcan

Itami stormed to the ring after the commercial break and demanded a rematch. Lorcan didn’t mind, so we got another match.

This time Itami attacked at the bell and it was on! Lorcan took a nasty bump to the floor where he was sitting on the top rope and Itami clotheslined him off the ropes and to the pretty black mats. Actually, on the way down he kicked the cameraman in the head too.

These two work really well together and this is easily the best series of matches Itami has had since debuting. The finish saw Lorcan injure his knee. I think most thought he was feigning the injury as a reversal of their first match, but instead Itami hoisted him up, hit a Go to Sleep, and picked up the win.

After the match, Itami called Kassius Ohno to the ring. Itami and Ohno went face-to-face when suddenly Nikki Cross ran to the ring and distracted the two men, which led to Alexander Wolfe and Killian Dain hitting the ring and laying out Itami and Ohno!

Wolfe cut a promo saying they are ending all these lies and forced friendships with chaos. Wolfe was exuberant, which seemed to irk Dain. Wolfe said Eric Young was away on his master plan.

It should be noted that they aired a commercial for the Great Balls of Fire PPV with one major error. They showed video of Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman, but the audio of the commercial was from Brock Lesnar vs. Samoa Joe. They made a boo boo.

SAnitY will face Kassius Ohno & Hideo Itami in a tag team match next week.

NXT Women’s Champion Asuka defeated Nikki Cross in a last woman standing match to retain her title

This was set up two weeks ago when Asuka’s winning streak ended when her and Nikki Cross went to a no contest in a triple threat elimination match. I know I am arguing semantics, but she is undefeated, even though she lost her winning streak.

Cross got the early advantage by catching Asuka in the ring apron. We went to commercial with Cross pulling a dozen chairs out from under the ring. Coming back from the break, Cross threw Asuka into the steps and Asuka just bounced off of them. Seconds later, Cross bounced off a different set of steps. Maybe these steps were bolted to the floor?

Asuka pulled out a trash can, which, shockingly enough, elicited an “ECW” chant. Asuka put the can on Cross and kicked it before using a missile dropkick, knocking her challenger down.

Cross came back and used a neckbreaker on the ring apron, which is the hardest part of the ring. Remember those chairs Cross pulled out? Well they took turns giving each other a back suplex into the pile of chairs.

They got rid of the chairs and Cross hit a series of swinging fisherman neckbreakers. Asuka barely got to her feet before 10, but used said feet to kick Cross in the head.

Turns out those chairs were put back outside the ring and Cross powerbombed Asuka off the ring apron onto the chairs, causing Asuka to slam the back of her head on the ramp. That literally should have been the end. She still never would have been pinned and gone out with an amazing bump that believably could knock you out for 10 seconds, but Asuka dragged herself to her feet at nine.

They fought up the ramp and ended up near the announce position. Asuka managed to kick a lighting rig and Cross gave her a spinning neckbreaker on a crash pad on the floor, but it still looked nasty. Again, that could have been the finish, but Asuka just barely got to her feet.

The finish saw Cross set up a table on the floor and splay Asuka across it. Then she set up a ladder and began climbing, but Asuka got up and climbed up after her. Asuka then hit a suplex off the ladder and through the announce table, which they were near. Asuka barely got to her feet at nine and Cross never moved, giving Asuka the win.

Ladies and gentlemen, Asuka is still the reigning, defending, undisputed NXT Women’s Champion, and on this night she was the last woman standing. Until next week, remember to say your vitamins and take your prayers!
