We go to Melbourne, Australia for the opener!

NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Samoa Joe in a steel cage match to retain his title

The show is backwards, with the main event being shown first. The match started slow, with nothing really happening until five minutes in when Joe slammed Nakamura into the cage. We got a very awkward cut to commercial break where the announcers were talking and suddenly we were watching a commercial for Roadblock.

Just like last week, they edited out a lot of the match, as after the break we were already at the finish. Nakamura dropped Joe on his head with a German suplex, but Joe did get on the Coquina Clutch. Nakamura got out of that by teasing the Bret Hart vs. Roddy Piper WrestleMania VIII finish, as he ran up the ropes to try for a pin, but Joe kicked out.

After fighting on the top rope, Nakamura knocked Joe off and then hit the Kinshasa off the top rope! Nakamura was unable to make the cover and was close to escaping the cage, but he closed the door and pinned Joe after two Kinshasas.

We are magically whisked away to Full Sail University for the rest of the show.

First we are reminded of Billie Kay and Peyton Royce walking out on Daria Berenato during a six-woman tag three weeks ago.

Kay and Royce cut a promo saying they did not lose the six-woman tag, Berenato did. They do not associate with losers. Berenato walked up and said she is going to hurt one of them next week.

Tye Dillinger defeated Eric Young by DQ in a number one contender’s qualifying match

The winner of the four singles matches tonight will go into a fatal four-way match next week, with the winner of that becoming the number one contender to Shinsuke Nakamura’s NXT Championship.

Young got 30 seconds of offense before Dillinger cut him off. Dillinger hit the 10 punches of doom in the corner and seemed to be teasing the Tye Breaker already when Nikki Cross ran in the ring for the disqualification.

Dillinger threw Young, Wolfe, and Cross out of the ring after the match, but he was attacked from behind by Damo! Damo (who needs better fitting pants) left Dillinger lying.

Andrade “Cien” Almas defeated No Way Jose in a number one contender’s qualifying match

Almas has pyro, which is rare for an NXT wrestler. Like the last match, this was not very long. Jose took most of the match, but got cut off and quickly dropped with the hammerlock DDT and Almas picked up the win.

Roderick Strong defeated Elias Samson in a number one contender’s qualifying match

The Drifter continues to get the only real heat on NXT. Sure it’s “go away” heat, but it’s still the only actual heat anyone gets now that Eva Marie is gone.

Another short match, following the formula of the last one. Samson took most of the match, Strong fought back, hit Darren Young’s gut check, and won with a running kick to the face.

Next week:

  • Billie Kay vs. Daria Berenato
  • Tye Dillinger vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Roderick Strong vs. the winner of the main event

Bobby Roode defeated Oney Lorcan in a number one contender’s qualifying match

Lorcan defeated Tye Dillinger back in July and then disappeared for months. He did show up a few times, but for the most part it was like that match never happened.

This was the most competitive match of the four qualifying bouts, but that really isn’t saying much.

Roode got the early advantage, but when he slowly raised his arms to the air, Lorcan took his head off with an uppercut. Lorcan placed Roode on the top rope and appeared to go for a back superplex, but Roode elbowed him off.

Lorcan got a near fall off of a blockbuster, but no one believed he had a chance to win and ultimately that was correct as Roode hit a spinebuster and won with the impaler DDT.

That will do it for this week. Thank you all for reading and until next week, remember to say your vitamins and take your prayers!
