WWE Main Event results: The Judgment Day vs. Mysterios, 24/7 title defenses

This week’s WWE Main Event was taped at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska, before Monday’s Raw.

Doudrop (w/ Nikki ASH) defeated Dana Brooke to win the WWE 24/7 Title (2:26)

Doudrop won the official match where the 24/7 rules were suspended, but Brooke retained her title after the bell when she finally pinned Nikki ASH after the title was traded several times. The crowd loved this and it was actually a lot of fun to watch.

As was reported this week, although the title changed hands in the match here on Main Event, order was restored in the end after a series of quick title changes that the crowd enjoyed for what they were.

Brooke fought out of a Cobra clutch and got a near fall with a bulldog, but when ASH distracted her, Doudrop took the advantage and got the win with a crossbody.

Akira Tozawa defeated Doudrop to win the WWE 24/7 Title

ASH immediately tried to pin Doudrop after the bell. Droudrop was furious and as her back was turned, Tamina gave a her low blow, nailed ASH and used a superkick on Doudrop. Tozawa then appeared as Tamina was running the ropes and tripped her. He clambered into the ring as ASH started punching Tamina and he pinned Doudrop instead.

R-Truth defeated Akira Tozawa to win the WWE 24/7 Title

R-Truth ran down with Reggie and slammed him into the dasherboards. He hit the ring, dodged Tozawa with the splits, and then hit him with a sit-out facebuster to grab the title.

Nikki ASH defeated R-Truth to win the WWE 24/7 Title

R-Truth took a bow and rolled outside, but was nailed from behind by Reggie whose dropkick posted Truth.

We had a cluster as everyone tried to take advantage of Truth’s position. In the end, they squabbled for too long and ASH came off the top rope on top of them to send everyone scattering. She was then able to get the pin.

Dana Brooke defeated Nikki ASH to regain the WWE 24/7 Title

ASH celebrated emphatically, but as she was pumping her arms in the middle of the ring, we came full circle as Brooke slid in and hit ASH with a swinging neckbreaker and that was all she wrote.

The Mysterios defeated The Judgment Day (Finn Balor & Demien Priest) via DQ (5:59)

This was fine until an unnecessary DQ finish that didn’t make any sense.

They went through a commercial break with The Judgement Day cutting the ring in half and working over Dominik on the other side of the commercial break.

Dominik played babyface in peril before finally managing to give Rey the hot tag. After running wild, Balor managed to disrupt Rey’s flow with a near fall. After Rey hit a rana for two, Dom came back in and he and Priest got sent outside.

Rey set Balor up for the 619, but Priest came out of nowhere to catch Rey on the outside and, as he launched Rey into the railings, the ref called for the bell.

After the DQ announcement, the Mysterios hit stereo 619s on Priest and they played their music so that they could send the bad guys packing. 

The result protected The Judgement Day, but it seems unnecessary given how few sets of eyeballs are on this show each week.

Final Thoughts:

Well, this was certainly a very newsworthy show if nothing else. Having the 24/7 Title trading places makes sense for a show like this and was fun, especially when the crowd are into the comedy as they were here. 

The Judgement Day having to work this show is a worry, but they are infinitely better to watch than a lot of other acts who have graced the Main Event stage.
