WWE Main Event results: The Mysterios vs. Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin

This week’s WWE Main Event was taped at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina, before Raw.

T-Bar defeated Dennis Daniels (2:00)

This was just another squash for T-Bar. They are trying to get him over as a big guy and this is certainly a more fun way to do it than they tried so far.

Luka Daniels is pretty new to this, so it was good exposure for the South Carolina native. In typical WWE style, he had to go under a different moniker so they went with Dennis instead of his actual first name.

T-Bar threw him all over the ring before sending him outside and nailing him into the post headfirst.

It was all over when T-Bar carried him back into the ring followed by the High Justice to get the win.

T-Bar has been using Eyes Wide Shut over the last few months, but we know that they love to give a big guy a chokeslam, so it looks like he’s going with that now.

Dominik & Rey Mysterio defeated Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin (6:24)

This was a fun tag match that could easily run a little longer, but this was excellent curtain-jerker stuff for this pre-Raw crowd.

This marked Dominik’s Main Event debut and, remarkably, was only Rey’s second appearance on this show. Back in 2012 when Main Event was relaunched on Ion TV, he was in a six-man tag with Sin Cara and Randy Orton on the show’s fifth-ever taping.

They very much built this around Rey getting the hot tag and when it came, it gave everyone exactly what they wanted. Benjamin and Alexander really built up the tension by cutting the ring in half and beating up Dominik, going through the commercial.

When it finally came, Rey immediately looked for the 619, but Benjamin had it telegraphed and stopped him in his tracks with a kick to the face.

After the ring filled, Dominik dumped Alexander outside and he and Rey hit stereo 619s on Benjamin with Rey finishing him off with the top rope frog splash.

Given how turgid things can get on Main Event, this was a breath of fresh air.

Final Thoughts:

It will be interesting to see whether they keep up with the T-Bar squashes each week or whether it tails off.

Rey and Dominik debuting together was a fun surprise, but has to be a concern for them as this is not where they belong. Alexander and Benjamin make a very fine pairing, but continuing to be relegated to this show is also a giant waste.
