WWE Main Event results: Apollo Crews vs. Ciampa

This week’s WWE Main Event was taped at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina, before Monday’s Raw.

Commander Azeez defeated T-Bar (6:01)

This wasn’t as bad as you’d think, but it was way too slow and ended up being a pretty dull affair.

With Apollo Crews in the match at the top of the show, Azeez came out to face T-Bar all by himself. It’s fair to say he hasn’t developed well and got a tepid reaction at best.

T-Bar has been on the end of some burials of late and this one was no different. He’s someone who really has improved, yet he’s only won three matches in all of 2022 and must be wondering what he has to do to get some main roster action.

Azeez took most of the match and T-Bar never really got much offense in at all. As you would expect, this included a resthold with Azeez using a cobra clutch midway through.

It really didn’t need to go this long, but ended when T-Bar got caught coming off the top rope and got hit with the Nigerian Nail. Azeez then used a spinning side slam to get the win.

After the match, they recapped Ciampa attacking Mustafa Ali on Raw.

Ciampa defeated Apollo Crews (7:28)

This was as good a match as you’re likely to see on Main Event. Both men really came alive and put in excellent performances.

Last time Ciampa was on this show, he had a first name. Such is the weird and wonderful world of professional wrestling, but at least he’s getting a chance on Raw at last. Crews has had a stuttering 2022 with a handful of wins and a feeling that his work with Azeez has come across as muted and lacking the push he had last year.

They worked a balanced back and forth match that went through a commercial break. Ciampa went into the break in control as he tossed Crews outside and nailed him with a knee.

After the break, they went to near falls and finisher attempts. Ciampa’s first attempt at the Fairy Tale Ending was blocked and Crews was able to use his standing moonsault for a two count. Ciampa used a schoolboy for his near fall, but was able to follow it up with a high knee so that he could set up for the Fairy Tale Ending. The second time around, he got it done and Ciampa was cheered after the victory.

Final Thoughts:

The main event was really good and I’d have no qualms with them doing this again next week. This was as good a match as you’re likely to get on this show.

The opener, however, wasn’t good. Azeez needs to either improve rapidly or be booked with smoke and mirrors.
